El Centro de Formación Avanzado en Periodismo ‘Ventura de los Reyes’ comienza su actividad docente

El Centro de Formación Internacional en Periodismo Avanzado ‘Ventura de los Reyes’ ya es una realidad. El Centro ha sido creado en el marco del programa de cooperación internacional ‘Ventura de los Reyes’ ideado e impulsado por la Asociación de la Prensa (APC), financiado a través de una subvención de Estado por la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID) y ejecutado en terreno por Kapatiran Sandugo con la asistencia técnica de la APC.

La periodista Ana García Barea ha abierto la programación de cursos con el seminario “ notas para la redacción periodística on line”. Entre el martes 3 de mayo y el viernes 6 de mayo Ana García Barea expondrá sus conocimientos sobre la materia a un grupo de 15 jóvenes filipinos periodistas en activo en algunos casos o interesados en el mundo de la comunicación. Adicionalmente, la mayoría de los participantes hablan con fluidez español.

El programa se completa con una visita a un medio de comunicación asentado en Manila así como la celebración de sesiones de formación en la sede del proyecto ‘Ventura de los Reyes’ y redacción del portal informativo multimedia en español http://www.e-dyario.com.

Los próximos seminarios de formación se celebrarán entre los meses de junio a octubre. Las materias que serán objeto de exposición y debate versan sobre el periodismo corporativo, los mensajes del medio televisión, el tratamiento de fotografías en publicaciones digitales y la influencia del periodismo a través de internet sobre las formas tradicionales de Periodismo, entre otros asuntos.

La sede del Centro de Formación Internacional en Periodismo Avanzado ‘Ventura de los Reyes’ se encuentra en el aula de formación de la Bibilioteca ‘Herencia Cultural de Filipinas’ situada en el distrito de Makati, centro de la actividad económica y empresarial de Manila’.

El desarrollo del programa de cooperación internacional ‘Ventura de los Reyes’ iniciado el pasado mes de julio se ha concretado hasta ahora en la celebración de las primeras jornadas dedicadas a la Prensa Española en Manila, en cuyo desarrollo participó la APC junto a Unión Latina, el lanzamiento del portal multimedia informativo en español http://www.e-dyario.com que ha tenido una media de 19.000 conexiones al mes y el arranque del Centro de Formación Internacional en Periodismo Avanzado.

La APC presenta sus proyectos en Filipinas

Con el objetivo de reforzar los vínculos entre Cádiz y Filipinas a través de la prensa, la APC desarrollará las “Jornadas de Prensa Española en Manila” y el proyecto de cooperación cultural internacional “Ventura de Los Reyes”.

La Asociación de la Prensa de Cádiz ha presentado esta mañana en rueda de prensa sus proyectos en Filipinas, que comenzarán el próximo mes de julio. El objetivo de estas actividades es reforzar los vínculos entre Cádiz y Filipinas a través de la prensa, al tiempo que se colabora en el desarrollo del país y se fomenta el uso del español, ha explicado el presidente de la APC, Fernando Santiago.

La primera de las actividades comenzará el día 8 en Manila. Se trata de las “Jornadas de Prensa Española en Manila”, con las que se pretende dar a conocer la situación actual de la prensa española e intercambiar impresiones entre los periodistas españoles y filipinos participantes en las jornadas, según Carlos Alarcón, el coordinador de esta actividad. José María Calleja, Román Orozco, Ana Romero, Antonio Yélamo, Fernando González Urbaneja, Rafael Navas, Lalia González y Fernando Santiago son algunos de los periodistas españoles que participarán en las jornadas, en las que se analizará desde el tratamiento de la información internacional en la prensa española hasta el futuro profesional de los estudiantes de periodismo en Filipinas, pasando por los riegos de la libertad de expresión en ambos países y el papel de los medios de comunicación. La actividad formativa terminará el día 9 de julio con un recital flamenco a cargo de David Palomar (al cante) y Keko Baldomero (al toque). Esta actividad está organizada por la Asociación de la Prensa de Cádiz, con el patrocinio de Unión Latina y la colaboración del Instituto Cervantes en Manila, la Agencia Andaluza para el Desarrollo del Flamenco, la Junta de Andalucía, Quatar Airlines y la Embajada de España en la República de Filipinas.

A primeros de julio comenzará también el proyecto “Ventura de Los Reyes”, la continuación del programa de cooperación internacional “Radyo Manila” que ha desarrollado la APC en Filipinas en los tres últimos años, gracias al apoyo de la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional. Como novedad, además del programa de radio “Filipinas Ahora Mismo” -el único programa de radio que emite en español-, el “Ventura de Los Reyes” desarrollará un periódico digital en español y creará un centro de formación de periodismo, ha explicado Carlos Juan Juan, coordinador del programa y delegado de la APC en Manila. El “Ventura de Los Reyes” es uno de los tres programas de cooperación cultural internacional para el desarrollo que tiene en marcha la Asociación de la Prensa de Cádiz. En Marruecos, la APC desarrolla “Calle de Agua”, programa que promociona cursos de formación a través del centro abierto en Tánger, cuenta con un periódico digital llamado Diario Calle de Agua y una pagina web (www.diariocalledeagua.com), que sirve de enlace entre los profesionales en ambas orillas del Estrecho. En Malabo (capital de Guinea Ecuatorial) la APC tiene en marcha un ciclo de talleres en 'Producción Documental' y 'Periodismo Digital', con el objetivo de capacitar al alumnado en las técnicas de producción y redacción periodística digital, todo ello basado en el intercambio cultural entre los participantes.

Los proyectos de cooperación cultural internacional de la Asociación de la Prensa de Cádiz pretenden participar en el desarrollo de los pueblos, con el periodismo como herramienta fundamental para la promoción de la libertad y pluralidad cultural.

Winner of Feature Articles Competition “Opportunities through Integration” Announced
ASEAN Secretariat, 10 April 2009

Ms Mary Anne Therese Manuson, a 26-year old Research Associate with The Development Executive Group in Pasig City from the Philippines was named the overall winner in the Feature Articles Competition on “Opportunities through Integration” for her article on consumer choice.

As the winner, Mary Anne, will receive a return air-ticket to Jakarta and spending money, meet the Secretary-General of ASEAN, and work with a journalist to review the winning entries for publication.

The Feature Articles Competition was jointly organised by the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN-EU Programme for Regional Integration Support (APRIS) to raise awareness of the benefits of economic integration and the creation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015. Opened to all ASEAN nationals under the age of 30, entries were invited on four themes: business opportunities; business competitiveness; consumer choice; and consumer protection.

Besides the winner, two runner-ups were identified. They were Mr Yoeman Anton, a 21-year old undergraduate student majoring in International Relations at the Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung, Indonesia, who wrote on the subject of business opportunities; and Ms. Shellen Halim, a 20-year old undergraduate student at the Economics Faculty of Binus International University in Jakarta, Indonesia, majoring in marketing, who submitted an article on business competitiveness. As runner-ups, both Yoeman and Shellen will receive cash prizes.

The winner and two runner-ups were selected by a judging panel comprising of staff from the ASEAN Secretariat and APRIS. The winning articles will be posted on the ASEAN and APRIS websites shortly. Do look out for them.

¿Sabías que la pizza de base gruesa, o la pizza de Chicago-style, es una variedad específica de nuestra favorita comida italiana? La pizza es tradicionalmente elaborada abierta a igual que la focaccia. El estilo de Chicago es más parecido a una casserole, o una lasagna. La verdadera pizza al estilo de Chicago tiene una base de pan gruesa, con crujiente queso y salsa de tomate. Existen dos variantes: la que es abierta posee una base gruesa o deep-dish pizza, y la que se cierra como un calzone, o stuffed pizza.

La pizza cuya variente es la deep-dish fue inventada en Pizzería Uno en la ciudad de Chicago, en los Estados Unidos en el año 1943. Aquí en Filipinas, la especialista pizzería de la pizza de base gruesa es Jimini Whole Pizza’s The Chicago Pizza Factory, situada en el tercer piso de Midtown Wing, en el centro comercial Robinson’s Place en Ermita, Manila. Es la tienda dirigida y administrada por nuestro compañero, Don Flores, quien actua como co-proprietario también. :-)

La creación de una emisora de radio en F.M. para que emita en español desde Manila integra un proyecto pionero de un medio de comunicación en español, en las Islas Filipinas. La emisora da cobertura a la comunidad de hispanohablantes de ese país -unos dos millones de personas, incluyendo a los parlantes del dialecto chabacano- y también, constituye un estimulo necesario, para los que desean iniciarse en el dominio del castellano.

Esta acción de cooperación cultural se enfoca a fortalecer la imagen de la lengua española en el mundo y ha permitido, en vísperas de la conmemoración del bicentenario de la Constitución Española de 1812, la recuperación de un vínculo muy importante entre Manila y la ciudad de Cádiz, antaño muy intenso, por cuanto “La Pepa”, reconocía, por primera vez, derechos y libertades fundamentales esenciales para los habitantes de Filipinas, en el marco de la corona española.

El proyecto “Radyo Manila – La Voz de Manila”, coordinado por la Asociación de la Prensa de Cádiz (A.P.C.) y en el que también colabora el Instituto Cervantes, se basa en la emisión de un magazín, “Filipinas, Ahora Mismo”, que se emite de lunes a viernes de 12 a 13 horas y donde además se enseña la lengua española.

Aglutina varias líneas de actuación: actualización de las instalaciones técnicas y capacidad de equipamiento, puesta en marcha y funcionamiento de una emisora de radio en español, programa de Cursos y Becas para Periodistas en formación y estudiantes filipinos de Español, y optimización de las emisiones difusión “World Wide” a través de Internet y por medio de un enlace en las Webs de la Asociación de la Prensa de Cádiz, www.prensacadiz.com y la página de Bicentenario 2012, www.bicentenario2012.org

El grupo que se llamaba "The Frappy Mix Experiment" ha cambiado su nombre profesional a "Bad Pinky". Ellos han escrito la canción "Feeling sa Piling". También incluyeron en su grabación inicial sus otras composiciones originales como "Maong", "Nagtatago" y "Kaya Yan".

La banda consiste en Emy Yao en voces principales; Eky Canlas en guitarra, voces y coro; Pao Vivas en batería y percusión; Deo Cruz en guitarra sola y coro; y Fray Yanga en bajo.

One of the country’s most unique film festivals is back! Watch four different bands each take on the task of scoring a German silent film live. This year’s series gives audiences a little horror, some suspense, and even a love story. To be screened are “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”, “Asphalt”, “The Golem” and “Tabu”.

The 1919 film “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”, directed by Robert Wiene, is a horror classic and landmark of German expressionism in cinema. It is also widely considered one of the most influential silent films ever made, since traces of the film can be seen in the likes of later masterpieces such as “Metropolis”, “Nosferatu”, “Faust”, and “Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler” among others. Wiene’s opus showcases a nightmare realm in which light, shadow and substance are abstracted, a world in which a demented doctor and a carnival sleepwalker perpetuate a series of murders in a small community. Complementing the strange world of Dr. Caligari will be the unique score done by avant-garde group Radioactive Sago Project .

"The Golem”, subtitled “How He Came Into the World”, is director Paul Wegener’s third and most ambitious film on the golem, a popular figure in Jewish folklore. In the film, Rabbi Loew creates a golem to protect the residents of 16th Century Prague’s Jewish Ghetto from being expelled from the city. The Golem saves the Jews from expulsion, but the lumbering creature is not easily controlled and when he runs loose, the whole of Prague is in danger of destruction. The live music score for "The Golem" will be provided by Drip .

Director Joe May is mostly known as the man who helped start Fritz Lang’s film career. His 1929 film “Asphalt”, a love story set in Berlin in the late 1920’s, is considered one of the last great German Expressionist films of the silent era. Starring the delectable Betty Amann in her most famous leading role (as a thieving femme fatale), Asphalt is a luxuriously produced classic where tragic liaisons and fatal encounters are shaped alongside the constant roar of traffic. Cynthia Alexander will be providing the score.

“Tabu”, to be scored by Bo Razon, was director F.W. Murnau’s last film. The director died tragically just seven days before its premiere in 1931. Filmed entirely in Tahiti, “Tabu” represented an unusual collaboration between legendary directors F. W. Murnau and Robert Flaherty (Nanook of the North). Two lovers are doomed by a tribal edict decreeing that the girl is "tabu" to all men. While the lovers' flight from judgement and the ultimate power of the tabu are reminiscent of Murnau's expressionist films, the film is all open air and sunlight. “Tabu” was the 1931 Academy Award winner for Best Cinematography.

Each film will be accompanied by a live musical score by one of the country’s best groups.

30 de junio de 2006 -- Hola, amigos. ¿Qué os pasa? El verano ya se fue, pero antes de besar el pasado adios, os vamos a contar una historia.

La Historia

La revista electrónica Orgullo Mundo empezó como una reseña del club Círculo Hispánico de la Universidad de Filipinas en Diliman, ciudad de Quezon. La forma original fue un boletín semanal que anunció todas las actividades o programas de la organización. Conceptualizado y escrito del secretario del club, Allan Aquino, se publicó Orgullo: La Reseña Semanal en español y se mostró en el sede del club y en frente de la oficina del Departament de Lenguas Europeas de la facultad. Desafortunadamente, no existe este día ninguna copias de la reseña. Todo se perdió al eligir una nueva administración de la organización.

En el marzo de 2004, antes de graduarse de la Universidad, los miembros del Círculo Hispánico decidieron crear un grupo de Yahoo! (gracias a Ian Paat y Niña Manuson) que se llamaron el Orgullo de Mamá para conmemorar y honrar su escuela y club. Luego quitaron ¨el Mamá¨ y cambiaron el formato de la edición. Empezaron mandar la reseña nueva por correo electrónico. Las nuevas copias hablaron de las vidas de los alumnos después de recibir sus licenciaturas. Cada edición tenía un tema, y utilizaron una mezcla de idiomas--inglés, español y tagalog. Publicaron 15 numeros de Orgullo News Online, pero los cesaron después. En septiembre de 2005, sigiueron producirla de nuevo.

Al llegar del año 2006, otra vez cambiaron la estructura y comenzaron presentar el Orgullo Mundo, una revista mensual que sigue la forma popular de los blogs. El nuevo diseño fue necesario para aumentar el contenido de las ediciones del futuro. Crearon nuevas secciones con artículos sobre los diferentes intereses de los Orgullosos. En abril, la lenguaje oficial de la revista regresó al español, y en mayo, introdujieron el suplemento llamado Orgullo Mundo Extra.

Este mes de junio hemos sido testigos de los dos martes consecutivos supuestamente malísimos: el 06-06-06 y el 13. Si han salido Uds. ilesos después de estas fechas, te los felicito; y a ellos que no, bueno, siempre tendremos el 06-06-07 (y el 06-06-08, 06-06-09, etc.) y los martes no 13 a acechar (además de los días de cumpleaños, de Resurrección, de Navidades, etc.). Y si las dudas se lo siguen carcomiendo su entusiasmo por lo que les puede deparar el futuro, espero que el poema de abajo se los reponga los nervios un poco.

1 - 7 de mayo

Se empiezan los preparativos de la reunión de los Orgullosos.
Asiste Rhoda Suarnaba a una instrucción cada sábado de mayo.

8 - 14 de mayo

Los Orgullosos (Allan Aquino, Irene Calimotan, Erika Canlas, Henz Manaligod y su colega Lorenzo, la huéspeda graciosa Niña Manuson y sus amigos Big Papa Noel, Marian y novio BJ) tienen un día festivo el 13 de mayo que comienza en una cominda en Chef d´angelo en Robinson´s Gallería. Siguen festejando en Hotel Renaissance 3000 en Ortigas Center, Pasig. Destruye el tifón Caloy toda las islas de Luzón y Visayas pero no desanima a los Orgullosos nadar en las piscinas a pesar de la lluvia y agua con temperatura increíble. Comen
Sr. Manuson da la bienvenida a los Orgullosos en su hogar en Rizal. Henz, Allan, Noel y Niña continuan celebrando la reunión a traves de un concurso de cantar por Magic Sing. Irene encuentra a una gata preciosa, Portia.
Por toda la semana, Diday Candido está enferma con gripe.
Empieza Nikki del Corro en su trabajo en BayanTrade.

15 - 21 de mayo -- Es la semana de cumpleaños.

Celebramos el 16 de mayo la fecha de nacimiento de Erika (edad 23) y el señor Paco Mancebo (edad... ¿quién sabe?).
Allan cumple 25 años el 18 de mayo y organiza una fiestecita con su familia y su mejor amigo, Don Flores. Allan goza en su horario libre este verano desde el marzo. Lanza también su evangelio. ;-)

Publicamos la primera edición de Orgullo Mundo Extra con una poema de Neruda.
Niña prepara para su examen de PLIDA.

En 2005, Thalía Sodi, alias Marimar, terminó su contrato con Televisa, su compañía de telenovelas en México, por no filmar una nueva serie después de Rosalinda. Entretanto, EMI Latino, su productor de discos, puso en ecsena el undécimo álbum de la cantante, el disco más caro que vino de Latino América del año pasado. Aunque todavía no ha vendido mucho esta grabación, Thalía ha de ser orgullosa de las caniones en El Sexto Sentido, una colección de canciones muy sensuales. Uno de ellas es Seducción.

Con un tema de amor que alivia la sed, Seducción es algo parecido de Piel Morena, una canción muy popular de su álbum En Extasis (1995), pero esta nueva versión es más explosiva, con un ritmo muy fluido y contemporaneo. Es muy exitosa en la radio y los clubes por su elementos de pop y danza. (Existe en el disco una versión en ingles que se llama Seduction pero Thalía no suena muy segura y con control en inglés, por eso falta la canción.)

La video, dirigida por Jeb Brien en un club en Nueva York, tiene escenas de actividades homosexuales y claramente aumenta la sensualidad entre los versos. Cada persona en el club está vestido en blanco, excepto el negro sujetador de Thalía (tal vez para poner énfasis en las montañas de la mujer). Thalía, en una manera seductora, baila encima de un mesa, atrayendo los hombres y mujeres a ella. Sin duda, ¡seducción es una ¨peligrosa poción¨!

Amar, sufrir, y pensar... es buscar la poesía--- una línea anónima (traducida) de mi libro de poesías (Immortal Poems of the English Language--- An anthology, edited by Oscar Williams). Abajo es un poema por Pablo Neruda el cual fue compartido conmigo por una antigua docente de español en Poveda. Me veía entonces en un estado poco estable y tras leerlo hice algo que tuvo gran repercusión en mi vida y en la de otros.... A ver cómo éste les va a afectar a Uds. a su turno.

Bueno, agradecemos a Gloria Estefan por el título de esta edición de la revista. Es que esta revista es una para vuestra sed. Os venimos como agua de mayo, como anillo al dedo, como caído del cielo.... pues, ya lo comprendeís.

Empezamos con las chicas que ganaron la beca a España -- Armis y Blossom. ¡Enhorabuena, chicas! La buena noticia es Armis volaré en julio para ser una becaria. Pero na podrá celebrar su día de nacimiento aquí porque estará en europa ya. No te preocupes, Armis. Se puede realizar una gran fiesta cuando vuelves a Filipinas con tus euros. Jejeje.... Entretanto, Blossom ha decidido rehusar la oferta (awww...) porque tiene muchos planes de viajar a todo el mundo. (¿Fue la razón porque demitir de Thomson? Dimple, et al. necesitarán un nuevo empleado) Este marzo pasado, ella visitó Boracay, y piensa descubrir nuevos lugares en el futuro. También tiene ella un plan en secreto que va a divulgar el resultado si todo va bien. ¡Estamos entusiasmados, Blossom! Que tengas suerte.

Hablando de planes y tentativas, en mayo vamos a ampliar el contenido de nuestra revista mensual. Incluiremos secciones para cada miembro que quiere entregar un artículo de 100 palabras o más (si desea). No hay ningún fin de plazo o fecha fija para mandar vuestra contribuciones, pero es importante remitir una copia por mes. Es decir, cada autor tendrá un docena por año (bueno, sóla 8 en 2006). Al fin de cada mes, la edición regular de Orgullo Mundo va a salir a luz con un sumario del mes pasado y un resumen de cada columna. Esta evolución de nuesto proyecto es una acción progresiva para mejorar la revista y mantener el contacto de uno al otro. Podeís escribir (como la sugerencia de Niña =) sobre la música, los viajes, el cine y la tele, el amor, la tecnología, la comida, la literatura, los artes, los actores, la moneda, el empleo o escuela, etc, etc. Envíad los borradores a esta dirección: rasaquino@gmail.com con "May 2006" como tema. Allan va a publicar los artículos en el blog de Orgullo Mundo dentro de 24 horas.

Allan también tiene proyectos personales que piensa comenzar cuando tendrá 25 años en mayo. Lo que él puede decir de momento es... el proyecto es algo parecido con los evangelios. Hmmm.... (Allan dimitió en abril de su empleo de casi 3 años para intentar perseguir sus sueños. Ojala todo andaría bien. Rogad para él, por favor....=)

February 15, 2006 -- Happy Valentine's Day! Well, it's a day after the V-day. How amazing is it that there's an occasion every time we see each other? Hopefully we'd be able to have another reunion, large-scale or whatever, like the one that we had last Christmas, because it has been a l-o-n-g time. While we hope that you had a fun Valentine's Daywith your true love or loved ones, this week we remember a very bittersweet song and its music video about a failed relationship. Not to spoil all your Valentine bliss, but love is much sweeter after you've experienced pain. Ain't that the truth?

La Tortura

One of the more popular global latin artists today, Shakira, has created a new anthem for the people who have loved and lost and still emerge on top. In 2005, she released a duet with Spaniard Alejandro Sanz called La Tortura from her Fijación Oral, vol. 1 Spanish-language album, a song about being emotionally tortured after being dumped by your lover. It ends on a high note, though, as the "dumpee" later becomes the "dumper" (there are no better words) just as the former lover who rejected you wishes to come back to your nest but you clearly see that there's no point in sheding a tear for this person and this time, the ball's in your court. Sweet revenge.

The song features Shakira's trademark thick vocals and of course in the video, her trademark hip-shaking dance moves take centerstage, amidst all the grease that the director put on her. Alejandro Sanz also does some rapping here and effectively sings the chorus with Shakira with his popular husky voice. (If you did not know who Alejandro Sanz was, he's the one who re-recorded the Spanish version of One Night, Una Noche, with The Corrs in 2001, and he has the biggest selling pop album in Spain in recent times, Mas, released in 1997). This video is remarkable as it is the first song completely sung in Spanish that received mainstream airplay on radio and in MTV and TRL all over the world and was a global hit, and Shakira and Alejandro were the first performers to sing a song in Spanish at the two-decade old MTV Video Music Awards last year. (Forget Macarena, because that one became popular worldwide due to the Spanglish and dance novelty remixes and Christmas versions). During the historic filming of her Making The Video episode, being the first edition done completely in Spanish, Shakira commented that she had wanted to wear a wig but decided against it when she learned that she would be dancing with black oil all over her body. She was afraid, though, that the oil would ruin her hair. But since she could not dance well with an unstable wig dripping with grease, she agreed to use her real hair. How about that for dedication! After seing the video, though, you would be seduced and satisfied and would tell yourself, "The Sexbomb Girls probably haven't seen this music video yet."

There are two main versions of the song with separate music videos directed by Michael Haussman. You could buy the original version as the album Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 comes with a bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes on the making of the album and a rare home video shot by Alejandro Sanz featuring booty-shaking Shakira. All in all, the carrier song, and the rest of the album are a great buy. (It was nominated for Best Latin Rock Album at the recent Grammy Awards). Now, to enjoy the song, which was included in our very own private collection, Orgullo: Latin Pop, released last December, we are publishing the original lyrics of the album version. The Shaketon Remix, a version of the song that also appears on the album, features a reggaeton beat (think Gasolina by Daddy Yankee) and hip-hop production and slightly different bridge but retained the original melody. We'll talk about this new music genre that has become so popular in North and Latin America and the Philippines in a future column.

28. The Chronicles of Orgullo: The Bacon, The Bitch & The Barcode

The Chronicles of Orgullo

This year, we welcome you all to the new site of Orgullo Mundo. You can visit this page and check the previous issues of our online magazine to reminisce. Yes, this is another milestone in Orgulloland. Hopefully this would be expanded and we'd have a few more mini-sections like book reviews, CD reviews, word of the week, etc. Orgullo Mundo is evolving, pretty much in a way that Napster changed the music industry. And to start our forthcoming projects, some of the said sections are going to make their debut this issue.

The Bacon

We had mentioned putting this in a previous issue which featured food and restaurants, and now we're glad to report that Heaven 'N' Eggs can live up to its building reputation as a decent alternative to satisfy your cravings, no offense to the restaurant called Cravings (which is another haven of good food, but that's another column). There are already several branches of Heaven 'N' Eggs in the city, including the one on Tomas Morato Ave., in Eastwood, and at Glorietta. The restaurant chain's first branch has been operational since April 2005, and there are many high-profile regulars who frequent the place (including Ruffa Mae Quinto, who allegedly went inside the Glorietta branch and demanded to be immediately served ahead of the customers who came in first). Don and Allan visited the Tomas Morato branch this month and they tried out several mid-priced selection in the menu, like the (accept our apologies for forgetting their official names) continental breakfast meal with bacon and eggs (where you have a choice on having rice, bread or mashed potato), and club sandwich and fries, and calamares with wasabi dip. Don also tried the pancake syrup, which comes in four flavors: maple, peach, pineapple, and coconut. Each serving was more than enough for a healthy appetite, but the side dish (like french fries) were a bit skimpy. Nevertheless, the whole experience was gratifying enough for the tummy. Just be prepared to bring enough cash to try some more offerings on the menu. There are still a few mishaps in this heavenly place. The tables and walls were nowhere glistening with angelic cleanliness, and the food could take a little while before it gets served. The music also was too bland for anyone's taste. We're not saying that they should play heavy rock or upbeat R&B all the time, but even Norah Jones would fall asleep while listening to their playlist. However, considering that the place is quiet enough to talk with your company, it's a nice place to hang out in and make a decent conversation. Overall, this would be a nice addition to your list of favorite eating out retreats. What do you say, Orgullo?

The Bitch

We don't want to offend anybody, but this is one of the more intriguing and enduring questions that Spanish-speaking people get from the non-Spanish-speaking bunch: Just how many ways can we say bitch in Spanish? As advocates of the language, allow us to give a response to all those inquiries. Based on the Oxford Spanish Dictionary, bitch is perra in Spanish, which is a female dog. It can be used as an adjective to describe a nasty woman, so we say mujer maligna o la bruja, meaning a witch. But if we want to get a little more creative, we can describe a person un mal bicho. El bicho originally meant a small animal or rare insect, but can be freely applied to bitchy human beings. Take great pleasure in using that phrase if you want to brush off somebody as a mean son of a bitch. Now, if it's simply a son of a bitch, we can apply the term el cabrón, which is technically a billy goat, but can also mean bastard. Another applicable term would be el cagachín, which is a slang for son of a bitch, with a denotative definition of swine. An additional colloquial term that we would introduce to you (and we say colloquial because it doesn't appear in the El Mundo Diccionarios or Oxford Spanish Dictionary) is la tipeja, or a female human with malicious and sly behavior. It can also be utitlized as an adjective to describe a nasty piece of work. La pájara is another slang word for that kind of woman that we hate, and is figuratively used as a substitute for a scheming bitch. A very useful verb phrase is tener mal café, meaning to bitch about, to be nasty, to be a bastard or to harbor evil intentions.

The Barcode

Fully-Booked carries an adequate selection of books on Spanish grammar and usage. Most of the terms that we mention for previous section The Bitch came from the The Big Red Book of Spanish Idioms. Published by McGraw Hill in 2004, the book contains a fairly recent collection of colloquial and common terms in the Spanish language that could not be found in any regular bilingual Spanish-English dictionary. The book is designed for speakers with a good grasp of the language (intermediate to advanced level) who would most likely encounter some phrases that connote a different meaning. This book is very useful if you're reviewing a Spanish film, watching TVE, reading a complicated text or novel, or conversing with a native Hispanic speaker. Written and compiled by Peter Weibul, who included an interesting introduction to his book on why he came up with this collection, the title boasts of 387 pages filled with around 12,000 Spanish and English expressions, which you can even cross-reference! It retails at PhP 777.00 (Gateway Mall branch), and Allan believes it is a great find. There are other great and useful Spanish titles available in Metro Manila, and we'd be sure to review those books and feature them in future columns. In fact, Allan has bought another book that was already mentioned in our Issue #19. (That book would be in a forthcoming issue.)

27. Orgullo Mundo: Back from the Future

January 9, 2006 -- ¡Hola! Bienvenido a 2006! It's been two weeks and we hope you all had a great vacation. We think it's fitting for our Issue#27 to go back in time and revisit some of our memorable Orgullo moments in 2005 before we head on to continue with the new year.

Back from the Future

10. Take a bow. Some members of Orgullo got their degree this year and a few even got cum laude honors, continuing the tradition of EL graduates. The commencement ceremony this year was behind schedule, and they did a telenovela moment where they give their inspiration a bouquet of flowers. Take a bow, Diday, Eky, Rio, Bingo, and Nancy.

9. Back to school. While the others have graduated already, some of us returned to school or continued their studies. Jiji is now enrolled in the MA Spanish program, Niña registered for MA Speech Communications and PLIDA for accreditation in Italian, and Mel F., Rona and Marc F. went on with their courses. Meanwhile, Don, who wanted to take up an MBA, is postponing his plans to take care of his dad and to get more experience in the hotel industry.

8. Winners' circle. Rona didn't even know she could do it, but after some convincing, she joined and won their school's Ms. Nursing pageant despite her tight schedule. Dimple, on the other hand, became a winner when she found happines in her job and it shows. She looked great when we saw her at the Thomson Christmas Ball where she stood out in her form-fitting red gown. She could have been Ms. Thomson Financial herself if there were such a contest. As we all know it, beauty and brains are a formidable combination, and in Orgulloland, we have a lot of that.

7. The year of living dangerously. This year, Rhoda's family saw another death. Allan got mugged and managed to come out alive and not lose even a single cent like the first time he was mugged in late 2003, although this time, he got a few bruises and needed to visit Makati Medical Center. Don has become more health conscious and watches his food intake more religiously now since his Dad got diagnosed with cancer. On a lighter note, Blossom finally got to try to live on her own without a roommate.

6. Food, festivities, ferrimagnetism. What? Well, food and festivities have always been a part of us, and the past year was no exception. Some of us visited and reunited at Cibo at the Shangri-la Plaza, Cheapsteak at the The Loop, Cravings at Galleria, Megastrip at Megamall, Ministop on Dian St., Oody's at Greenbelt 3, Pizza Hut Bistro at Gateway, Metrowalk in Ortigas Center, and of course, Italianni's at the Coliseum Circle. We even invaded the posh Thomson Financial Christmas Ball at the Makati Shangri-la where we ate some more. And during the wake at Rhoda's house, we took the time to be solemn and enjoy adobo in a benign fashion. What's the result of all of these gatherings? Ferrimagnetism. Okay, we're not actually neighboring atoms and ions that allign in a non-parallel manner when applied with a strong magnetizing field, but with Orgullo, we're kinda like that.

5. It's mabuhay miles! Aside from food, the Orgullo bunch has done some travelling, whether near or far, on their own or with friends and family. Ian went to Iraq to help dedicated soldiers, Niña visited Boracay and Singapore, Don went to Thailand and, like Mye and Nikki, checked out a few provincial locations, Allan got to Galera for the first time, Jiji returned from the US, Diday trooped to the Visayas, Blossom, who's hoping to go to Spain this year, hiked to Sagada with her gang, Jewel just flew to the States where she could meet up with Mel E, and Karina's doing the WOW Philippines bit because of her job with the NCCA.

4. Maximum wage. Generally speaking, EL graduates enjoy bigger pay and weird jobs and schedule, thus the above average salary. Last year, Jewel resigned from Thomson to transfer to the more prestigious World Bank with a 6-month contract. Blossom tried to get away from Thomson but was begged to stay, and in return got a raise. Allan also got a retroactive raise. Armis got a high-level certification at E-telecare which translates to an even higher pay. Diday had some problems with her first tries, but for over a month now she's with BPI to train and become an officer. Henz declined an offer to translate foreign-language adult movies and instead switched jobs and is now enjoying a much higher remuneration package. Irene also switched jobs. Eky's still busy working in Ortigas and like her, Niña stayed on with her current employer where she's been for over a year now, and Dimple has been with hers for over three years. Mye's got it down to being a supervisor. And Don changed departments and started working at the front desk of Pan-Pacific Hotel right after Christmas.

3. True Calling. Ian made it to be a very effective medic of the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army. Marita's in the process of becoming a lawyer, Mel E.'s on her quest to becoming an educator in New York, Rona's graduating soon to become a nurse, and Bingo's an activist on TV. They got a call and they answered it.

2. Wishes came true. Niña and Don still may not be working for an international NGO, but they got a taste of their wish with Habitat for Humanity and other medical missions last year, plus he's working in the tourism industry. Jiji got to start on her MA, Armis got her Vicky Vios, Jewel got transferred to Washington, Henz found el amor de la vida, and Allan got a taste of broadcasting and got a new set of equipment last year to see the return of our expanding, evolving, beloved online community.

1. The Return of Orgullo! First, we saw the comeback of the Orgullo News Online with Issue #16 on October 13, 2005, and the continuation of our very own original trilogy, "The Legend of Sleepy Orgullo." We've had two special issues since then (#20 and #25) and for the first time ever, we now have our very own music collection, the dual-disc Orgullo: Latin Pop, with 25 songs inspired by each member of Orgullo, released during our Christmas dinner in honor of our 25th issue and our "musical background." And to celebrate el año nuevo, we welcome you to a redesign of our online newsletter, Orgullo Mundo.

Back to 2006

Rhoda, this is the sequel to our Very Special Blast from the Past (Issue#20) that we promised.

Don finally got his copy of the Orgullo: Latin Pop CD, and we're glad to inform you that this time we have the enhanced version. The first batch of CDs turned out all right, considering Allan had some last-minute technical glitches. This time, though, we were able to include the real Spanish versions of She Bangs and Ojos Asi (because we had the English versions of She Bangs and Ojos Asi (Eyes Like Yours) in the first batch). And we promise you, this is not the first and last Orgullo CD that we will release. Hint! Hint!

Sleigh bells ring... Are you listening? No, silly, there are no sleighs in this part of the world. But, what the heck, we hope you’re enjoying the rest of the holidays!

Santa Orgullo nos vino a visitar

Last December 23 at Italianni's Gateway, 7:00 PM, we held a mini-reunion called Virheißend, Spécialement Orgullo Pasko: Buon Natale. In attendance were Allan, Blossom, Diday, Jewel, Niña, Henz and her “ami intime,” Adrien. Orgullo would have been happier if all the kids were there but Don’s scheduled was moved at the last minute and he couldn´t get out of work, Rhoda was still ill, Armis had an emergency meeting around the same time that night, Dimple also had to work, and, well, you get the picture. Mye, Rona, Nikki, Eky and the others had prior commitment, too. But, we still had a blast and we thank everyone who came. And, as promised, Santa Orgullo had a little somethin´ for everyone that night as a special commemorative token. It was historic indeed, ´cause it’s Orgullo´s first CD! There are 25 songs (in honor of Orgullo´s 25th edition last week) plus one bonus track. Each song is dedicated to or inspired by our batchmates. Here´s the tracklist and what they mean:

ORGULLO: LATIN POP

CD 1
1 SUERTE (Shakira)
We start the collection with this song for good luck. The track is dedicated to Diday, whose smile and funky attitude reminds us all of Shaki. Diday, who also sports a new do, is starting a career at BPI, and after she completes the 6-month training, she´d be an instant assistant manager. Good luck, Dids!

2 PIEL MORENA (Thalía)
With her luscious, brown tone so reminiscent of Marimar, our song #2 goes out to Mye, who, even though she grew up in cold Baguio, loves to swim every chance she gets like Maria del Mar aka Thalia. Aw!

3 NO ME AMES (TROPICAL MIX) (Marc Anthony y Jennifer López)
Armis, is it any wonder why we picked this song for you? You (and Allan or somebody else) must have sung this song tens of times in public back in college. As a special treat, here's teh Tropical Remix of the song for that latin salsa feel!

4 YO TE VOY A AMAR (Nsync)
This is one of Don's favorite sing-along tunes. In fact, he's th one who asked for this song to be included here! Trivia: one of the lead members of *Nsync, JC Chasez, who'd dated sultry tejana Eva Longoria, is part-latino.

5 SHE BANGS (Ricky Martin)
Bingo would've claimed this dance track, but Rhoda collects the crown. After all, she's the one who was tossed and flipped and banged during the bridge at the UST performace of the chicas in 2001.

6 MARÍA LA DEL BARRIO (Thalía)
Some of you have been there already, and because there had been good and scary memories of your stay at Melissa Fresno's farm in Rizal, she earns the title Melissa, er, Maria la del Barrio!

7 MI TODO (Mariah Carey)
Mariah not only sings My All in Spanish, she was also voted as #2 Latino this 2005 by Para Todos Magazine. If you did not know, Mariah's an Irish-American/Black Venezuelan. Screwed up blood if you think about it, but extremely talented, nonetheless. That's why she's Allan's favorite.

8 TE DEJO MADRID (Shakira)
She's been to Madrid and back, and she also did her own version of Eurotrip along the way. This song belongs to Circulo ex-presidenta, Jiselle.

9 GUAJIRA (I LOVE U 2 MUCH) (Yerba Buena)
We're dedicating this song to Bingo, the song that came straight from the Dirty Dancing 2 Original Soundtrack. Well, we all know what could blossom out of a teeny-weeny puppy love, right? By the way, we've heard that Bingo's an activist now and can be seen on the Channel 9 news fighting for what's right and just. We just hope he did not have plastic surgery and that he's not the one with the golden highlights on RPN's noontime newsmagazine show... Oh no...

10 PRIMER AMOR (INTERLUDIO) (Christina Aguilera)
She presented some of us during the 2004 CAL Commencement Exercises, and this interlude reminds us of the day that Nikki was elected Class Speaker and did some passionate story-telling.

11 EL BESO DEL FINAL (Christina Aguilera)
Ian, we also considered Enrique Iglesias and Whitney Houston's Could I Have This Kiss Forever? but this one wins the prize! Oh, we forgot, you won the prize and then kissed a bella! Kidding!

12 AMOR A LA MEXICANA (Thalía)
Our future educator in New York, Mel E., worked for the Mexican Embassy for a year before she moved stateside. Mind you, she was invited to work for the Embassy, she did not really apply for that job. Galing!

13 LA TORTURA (Alejandro Sanz y Shakira)
Have you seen the video? If you still haven't, buy Fijacion Oral, Vo.1 and you'll know that Rona, with her PEP Squad training, is the only one who could rival Shaki's booty-shaking moves!

1 TE AVISO, TE ANUNCIO (Shakira)
The subtitle of this song is TANGO, and the message? Tango's not for three/ Was never meant to be... Dance, Blossom, dance!

2 ENTRE EL MAR Y UNA ESTRELLA (Thalía)
Since Jewel would be leaving for the States on December 30, we give her a tribute with this song. Go the distance and spread the E.L. fever! Besides, estrella just reminds us of la joya en el cielo, no?

3 UNA NOCHE MAS (Jennifer López)
Nancy's still grooving to her favorite J.Lo recording, which, by the way, was nominated for Best Dance Song at the 2000 Grammy's.

4 NAVE ESPACIAL (Santana y Jorge Moreno)
She always leaves every year. In fact, she's out of the country as of this writing (December 25-28 in Singapore) for a family trip that she paid for all by herself! Wow! "Post-its must be really lucrative..." JOKE. We dedicate this song, which means "spaceship", to Nins. A bonus? The world ORGULLO can be heard twice in this song.

Hippie Mix? Karina, this is for you!

6 DAME (TOUCH ME) (Chayanne y Jennifer López)
We remember Eky humming to this song 4 years ago, and we hope Eky still like this song because we are sending this out to her! =)

Henz, what's your favorite food? Henzinigang!?! Henz, Shake your culo and let's have a soiree!

He's the inspiration for the choice of song, dance routine and costume for out Ojos Asi performace at the UST Education Auditorium in 2001. Marc Falcon's Mediterranean looks made us giddy over Abu Sayaff fashion!

11 CUIDADO CON MI CORAZÓN (Madonna y Ricky Martin)
As far as we can remember, Irene did her undergraduate thesis on Latin American music and she loved Ricky Martin. Here's el loco for you with la loca Madonna!

12 REACH (Gloria Estefan)
For our 25th song in commemoration of our 25th Orgullo edition last week, we're rooting for Marita because we know she's going to make a great lawyer someday. Aim high, dream big, and reach your goals!

As the bonus track and the 26th song, we come full circle as we bring back Shakira's Suerte but this time in English remixed version with the Middle Eastern flava. Lesson of the Week

THE "A" SMILE. Thanks to Helen S., we now have a way of making sure we would always look great in our photos! Ok, all the girls, put one shoulder forward, and all the boys, one shoulder backward! Mix strategic angling and shadows for that dramatic effect, and 2 beats before the camera clicks, silently say the letter "A". Not 'W", not "P", not "O", but "A". If it worked for Helen, it should work for you, too! (Right, Nins?)

What a roller coaster ride it's been! Our girl Shakira couldn't have sung it better: Whenever, wherever/ We're meant to be together/ I'll be there and you'll be near/ And that's the deal my dear. Thank you for all the love. From Spanish 1 to the year 2005, we've surely gone a long way, and it's such a wonderful feeling that we're celebrating a milestone today. Orgullo, Plata, Mata

Last Saturday was quite a busy day for a few Orgullosos. Niña, her frenemy Noel, and Allan watched Repertory Philippines' Man of La Mancha, a wonderful musical that weaves the lives of Miguel de Cervantes and the character Don Quixote de la Mancha. It was shown at Greenbelt 1 and thankfully, the audience was great simply because the actors were also great. And we saw a lot of artistas, even in Greenbelt 3. (Okay, Noel, you can now stop drooling at Pinky Amador.) Don would've wanted to see the play but he had prior commitment that night.

After the musical, off they went to join Blossom, Dimple, and Jewel at the Thomson Financial lavish Christmas Ball at the Makati Shangri-la. The "Gatecrashers," aka Niña, Noel, Allan and Martin Manuson (who was there to pick up big sis) also saw ex-Círculo Hispánico president Tara. Too bad Rhoda had problems with her new contacts that night and wasn't able to join the party. She missed Dimple's group's fantasy presentation. Well, we hope you get well soon in time for our reunion! =)

Since Jewel (who looked great that night, as did Dimple and Blossom) would be leaving Thomson Financial on December 19, TF would be looking for a replacement analyst/translator. Interested applicants may submit their CV through e-mail to:

We´re so happy for Ian, who's found fulfillment in military service. "Dreams do come true after all," he wrote. We couldn't have said it any better. We're all looking forward to our future reunion. Be safe and God bless.

And because this is a special occasion, here's a teaser for everyone. There would be a special commemorative token that y'all would be getting during our Virheißend, Spécialement Orgullo Pasko: Buon Natale (see how it showcases our multilingual skills, LOL) on December 23 at Italianni's Gateway, 7:00 PM. We hope that that's music to your ears and we are so looking forward to seeing you all this Friday. Those who've confirmed attendance are: Allan, Blossom, Diday, Don, Niña, Jewel, Henz (plus a possible date), and Rhoda have already agreed to join VSOP: Buon Natale. Armis, Jiji, and Dimple are trying to fix their skeds. Mye and Rona would not be able to come because they´d be home for the holidays before the 23rd. But what about the rest, i.e. Eky, Rio, Mel F? 24. Super Orgullo!

Everyone needs a hero. Heroes are there to guide, inspire and motivate us to be our best. Allow us to be your hero this week.

Super Orgullo!

Dream.
Well, we don't have to sing like we're in Don Quixote, but you get the drift. Dream big. Sooner or later, your dream would come true. As most dreams do, especially if you work hard enough to achieve them. That's why Blossom's doing her best to save up so she could pursue her dream of going to Spain next year. She even lives on her own now in an apartment along Estrella in Makati. You go, girl. And we've heard that Rio has her own place now, too.

Aim high.
Now, since you're on the path of dreaming big things, it's probably okay to aim high. Why settle for Makati if you have the opportunity of working in Washington? Jewel did that, and now she's set to leave for the States on December 19 to be part of the World Bank . Kudos to you, La Joya!

Have faith.
Believe in yourself. Not trying to be preachy here, but hey, it's necessary to believe in yourself and know you can make anything possible. That's why Armis was able to get her Vios and name her new baby Vicky Vios. Nice one, bey-bi.

Be brave.
Don't be afraid to risk it on certain occassions. It pays off. Whether or not you pursue it, getting that MBA application form is a great first step, like what Don did. Henz also comes to mind why she chose to change jobs. And Mel E, who could not pass up the opportunity to join the Mexican Embassy right after graduation. Now look at her trying her hand at teaching in New York. And you all might remember Rona's triumph at her school's pageant, after initially hesitating to join the contest. Everything turned out well, and all is well. All in the name of world peace and good health.

Work hard.
It doesn't matter if you think you would have to work to get what you want, but a mango fruit doesn't just peel itsel like miracle. Jiji shows us that working hard is key. She wants to get her MA in Spanish, and she's taking up one course this semester. She attends class right after her shift at E-telecare. Mye also teaches is to work hard. Did you all know that she's been travelling back and forth to the provinces so she could deliver at work? Like we've said, working hard is a key element. You just have to use that to open your doors.

Stand up.
Even if you fall hard, there's no reason why you should be ashamed to stand up once again. Like Diday, she's tried a lot of jobs, at Alliance, PeopleSupport, etc, but resigned very quickly due to health and other personal reasons. But now she's up and back and has started working at BPI. Blossom revealed that the screening for this job is very difficult, that's why we're proud that Diday was able to get in. Good luck, Dids!

Sacrifice.
Like they say, no pain, no gain. Rhoda sacrifices extra sleep and travel time so that she could get to work on time and exceed her employer's expectations. Allan held back on pursuing his dream job--an extremely difficult decision--so he could give something back at home and prepare to ultimately pursue his dream in the future. *Tears*

Be committed.
It wouldn't mean so much if you would not be able to hold on to what you want and continue the even the simplest struggle. Eky's decided early this year to cut down on her YM chat time to focus on herself and her work. And Ian's desire to help others is evident in his decision to join the US Army and be sent to Iraq to be a medic and save lives. He showed us that being this dedicated gets you far, either literally or figuratively. Take care always, Ian. Vaya con Dios.

Be happy.
Anything would be pointless if you're not happy with what you've gained in the process. And that's why we're glad that Dimple found happiness in her job, not because of the high salary or the benefits or anything, but because she's happy there. It also make us proud that Mel F was able to survive the transition to another course. Otherwise, it would have been for naught. Good for you!

Continue to dream.
Don't ever stop dreaming. It's what drives you. That's the reason why Nins is taking her MA and will take PLIDA next year. Through her example, we learn to drive forward, not backwards. Right? Bingo!

Pray.
HE makes all things possible. Sorry, Globe Telecom, HE owns the patent to that.

We can't provide any answers because we believe that the answer is within YOU. We're just here to offer a crying shoulder with extra padding. Here's our love letter of the week:

Dear Lovenotes,

..............................Good day! How are you? I'm writing because I have a HUGE problem. You see, the Holidays are coming up, but most of Metro Manila is not yet dressed for the holidays. I haven't heard of any news that says Kuya Germs lit up a giant Christmas Tree somewhere. I guess times are different. Prices have gone up. Everyone needs to save up. It's just sad, I think, because I can hardly feel that the holidays are coming up. Even my friend Niña is cutting her Christmas vacation by 2 days. She told me that they're not going to Bangkok anymore because she's paying for the whole trip to Singapore from December 25-28. I guess if I had money I'd fly out of Luzon... never been outside Luzon this poor soul of mine... Last time I spoke with her, I heard that she's going to take up PLIDA in January to get accreditation for Italian... Next thing we'll know she's going back to Italy and Spain with a scholarship to get Kirara all over again... Anywho, we love her whatever skin color she's sporting. What, another despedida party na naman? See, Dear Lovenotes, hirap talaga ng pera ngayon....

Also, another concern po, Dear Lovenotes, serious po ito, since you seem omnipotent, please do you part and pray for Don's dad's health, who's undergoing chemo and radiotheraphy to counter his advanced, agressive thyroid cancer. His name's Moises if you need to write it down, and he's confined at the East Ave Medical Center where Don's mom Dra. Anita is a resident pediatrician.

Heto pa po, nahihiya po ako sa mga typo errors ko po in the past... like last week, I wrote a newsletter and I wrote down "avoid of"... magaling naman po ako mag-English, pero minsan sa pagmamadaling mag-type, hindi na napapansin ang mga nasusulat... Patawad po.... Wait, do you think I should go back to school? My friend Nins has enrolled in MA Speech Comm. Nakikita pa nga siya ni Trisha paminsan-minsan. And now, Don's trying to apply for MBA next year. He really wants to learn about the world of business. Well, do you think I should take up an MA in Creative Writing or something like my friend Allan is thinking about it? So that I'd have credibility on paper? Hope you could let me know what you think if it's possible. I'd truly appreciate it.

I miss my other friends, too... I haven't seen or heard from them lately... Well, I guess everyone's just busy. I know Rona's busy with nursing school. Ian's in Iraq but we're glad he's committed to saving lives. Mel's in New York to try teaching, so that's another good thing. Dimple, Rhoda and Blossom are know happy with their work. Henz just found a new job where she thinks she'd be happier, so good for her. But I miss Mye, Diday, Rio, Jewel, Nikki and eveybody else. I'm praying that our Christmas dinner would push through... Im praying that they agree that we should have it on December 23, dinner time, at Italianni's Gateway. Food's yummy, nice place, good company. Friday night naman 'yung dinner and most would be available like Nins and Allan who've already confirmed attendance. Sana 'yung iba rin para hindi cold 'yung Christmas ko. Pero nasa'n na sila?

Must-see movie: Just Like Heaven starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. Who doesn't love Reese and Mark? This movie would puts back the comedy and romance in romantic comedies. Just like the Philippine Daily Inquirer review says, by now we should know that Reese can do anything and be great at it. She can do comedy (Legally Blonde, Pleasantville), drama, thriller (Cruel Intentions), romance (Sweet Home Alabama), musical (with her own singing voice in Walk the Line), satire (Election), etc. And Mark. This guy has talent. He has great comedic timing and he can do drama as well. You saw him in 13 Going on 30 (where he showed he could dance, too) and he would be seen next with Jennifer Aniston in Rumor Has It. Since when did we turn into a serious movie critic here? Just watch Just Like Heaven and you'll see how great these two are.

Heaven and Eggs. As Rhoda has said, we're praying for you, Ian. Be back soon!

Central Perk. Mel Espiritu says she probably won't be back this year. Perhaps Christmas next year? Bring home some New York apple, please!

Steak Town. Don says there's this great steak place somewhere in QC. It's not Steak Town but it's supposed to be great. We're going to tell you all about it soon as soon as we taste it. Nope, it's not Cheapstake in ABS-CBN's The Loop. Although the food there is good and cheap, you should avoid the a**hole waiter who probably would be taking your order. Oops, what have we learned from last week's Food for the Soul? Careful!

Not too expensive, nice food, loud TV. But there are a lot of other restaurantes in Libis so you would not get hungry. From a turo-turo near Pizza Hut to Teriyaki Boy to Alba's to Italianni's, you'd be able to find something that suits your taste and budget.

As we celebrate our 20th episode, we thought we'd have a blast visiting the past. We hope you've enjoyed being with us all these years, and would continue to do so.

Hot 20 memories:

This appears in no particular order.

1. We had an amazing STS class. The opening dance number, the debate, the video presentation, the commercials, the reading sessions where we divided and conquered the readings, final grade higher than 1.5... it was the best. “Does anyone know where the antenna is?”

2. Of course, one of our classmates knew how to drive backwards--all the way to Tierra Pura. Snaps for you if you remember who it was. He was also the one who said "El balahibo en mi mano parece una cara." Don't laugh 'cause Mamá would catch you!

3. There was a conference at the DEL AVR and three almost got caught stealing -- of all things -- Arnibal! If y'all remember, arnibal was our version of pinoy iced tea.

4. Mel E was having a birthday party at our real tambayan with Trining Regala, and that day we were filming our "Hoy" news program and commercials and we brought all our hi-tech gadgets to our extension tambayan. What was more important: the real tambayan with all the food, or the extension tambayan with expensive gadgets (i.e. cellphones, digicams, video cams, laptops, portable printers, audio-visual accessories, and even wallets) worth more than PhP 300,000. The one with food, of course. Are your loco?

5. We loved to perform back in college. Some memorable performances were: the Xmas party at DEL (Armis, you're late), Maria's classes (we got paid), the Círculo Hispánico batch party (the one where Armis, Don, Allan, Ian, Diday, Mel F., et al danced), the Xmas party at Instituto Cervantes (Santa Claus nos viene a matar?), EL Week at UST Educ Auditorium (She Bangs and Ojos Así, anyone?), the CAL freshman program at the AS theater during FOPC week (No me mates, er, ames...), Maria's despedida party (acting to the max), Rudolf's piano concert at the RCBC Plaza (Very good, Rudolf! Just don't talk or sing.), the Fiesta Latina in Summer of 2002 with Carmen (chachacha!), the Fiesta Española in 2003 (sing, Eky), the Xmas party of EL orgs at the CAL Atrium, and a lot more! And who would forget the amazing performances of Rona and the Street Dance and Pep Squad, and Mel E. and her org?

6. Gin sessions. At the tambayan. Sunken Garden. Lagoon. Just don't borrow glass from the UP Coop canteen and you might break it. Or don't call your mom, who has a religious vow of abstaining from alcohol, while you're drinking alcohol.

7. Who really sang "Urong-sulong"? Swear, if it weren't for all our pop culture conferences, we would not have won the Jologs Quiz Show at Vinzon's Hall. We also got a lot of awards back then. The champions were Allan, Ian and Rio and the runners-up were Don and Armis at a national EL competition at DLSU. Of course, we've had several student achievers who got honored at the Gawad Chancellor: Nina, Rona, Mel E., Henz, Allan, Don, Ian, Jewel, Mye. (Correct us please if this list missed anybody). And who kissed who after winning pearls at a contest? Can you tell us, Henz? Ian?

8. Fishball and kwek-kwek. Siopao at the pushcarts. Manong's footlong (!) with mayo, ketchup and veggies. Mangga't bagoong at FC. Buko juice and gulaman and tapsilog at the Shopping Center. Siomai and melon shake at CASAA. Carbonara, spaghetti, stir-fry, mashed potato at the Green/Orange/Purple House. Binalot at the NISMED canteen. Tinapay and cheese ni Pot-pot. Cheese sticks at Econ. Sisig at World Topps. Sineguelas, gin, etc. at the tambayan. BBQ and Itlog na Pula w/ kamatis at Beach House. Lunch classes with Carmen Ventanilla in Eastwood. "It's not what you think" at the Arcade. "Keema" at Mister Kabab. Pansit at Vinzon's. Chicken at Chef d'Angelo's. Green Mango Shake at TGIF's. Fries at McDo. Sinigang at Lutong Bahay and Lutong Kapit-bahay. Oh, yeah. We loved to eat. And we loved to eat inside the Botor Library 'til late at night while playing Spanish Scrabble and Squabble.

9. We had fun swimming sessions. Remember the time Mye did not ask for permission to use her uncle's pool? Or when Allan slept in a kiddie pool in Marita's LGV apartment during her party? Or when Ian vomited in Marita's apartment? Or when some of us did night swimming during Niña's party on a night with a 17-degree celsius weather, in a pool with an even colder temperature? Or the time we smuggled in alcohol at Villa Alfredo and the guards believed it was vinegar undergoing fermentation?

10. Step 1: Wait for a taxi for 1 hour in Ortigas and then you'll reach Monumento in 15 minutes. Step 2: Just look at the signages. It says Zambales, right? Step 3: Don't mind the seat numbers. It would just create enemies from existing friends and families. Step 4: Sleep. Don't mind the clues. Step 5: Wake up when the driver shouts "Pampanga!". Get off after seeing KFC and McDo. Step 6: If you're at McDo already, leave Mcdo right away 'cause you're not supposed to be there. Step 7: Go back to KFC and take a tricycle. Don't be shy to ask for directions. The drivers already think you're locos from Manila. Step 8: Don't ask other passengers if it's Coke Central. Trust the driver. Coke bought out Cosmos, remember? Step 9: Trust the tricycle drivers if they tell you there's no Villa Alfredo in their baranggay. Step 10: Shout so your other friends would know you're already there.

11. The "Ya!" Magazine was so filled with "la calor" photos from that summer. Sexy swimwear? We've got it. Fatales? Yes, we are! (And the French majors and minors also produced another mag, also filled with steamy photos. Right, Rona and Mel?)

12. If it weren't for the distance and travel time, Allan would have invited y'all to his house in Malabon. Good thing he could relocate the birthday parties. Even though only a handful could attend some of them, we still created some great memories. It was "Lucky Numbers" with Don and Nance in 2001. With Don in UP in 2002, it was a sad birthday because he had to work in the evening. In 2003, it was even sadder because Allan was all home alone editing the video presentation & special effects for the STS live show. It was back to fun in 2004 at Gerry's with Armis, Mel F, Rio, Nins, Mye and Blossom and a Malate comedy bar with the last three girls (Mye, what really happens "down there" if it's not moist?). And this year, with Nins and Blossom, at Gateway, where the Pizza Hut Bistro's manager gave him a very theatrical birthday greeting. Plus, Nins had to buy a whole box of cigarettes so she could light a few a sticks and Blossom could throw the rest away.

13. The Lantern Parades were fun. We had an amazing banner instead of a lantern! Unique. Then we had one hell of a X-mas party in Malate in 2003. Of course, Allan was fuming mad because TGIFriday's lost our reservation because we came in late, but we still had a great time. The girls danced with the Bling-bling boy in a disco. We waited for the sun to rise (Like it would rise at the Manila Bay? Blossom, you were right, we were at the wrong side of the planet). And the boys had such fun with the camera on the way back to QC. Plus, it was Diday's first time to taste a blow-job!

14. Rona, why did you touch Karina's crotch when everyone was listening to your discourse? Karina, why did you allow your crotch to feel Rona's warm palm?

15. You could always ask where NISMED is, right, especially when it's already behind you? But, no, you had to ride an Ikot jeepney and tour the whole of Diliman.

16. We've had great gatherings at our friends' homes. Bet you didn't know how KFC chicken tasted before we ate a bucket and a half at Don's house? Or when Allan and Ian started their theses at Don's house but ended up repeating the class? Or when we started to learn how to concoct an amazing gin at Don's patio? Or our filming and editing sessions at Mel E's house? Or the crazy overnight at Mel F's ranch? Or the time we dubbed at Eky's house and Irene renamed a dish pochero? Or the time we practiced our dance routine at Armis' dorm? Or when we practiced at Chen's dorm, the IC, where we (we meaning Ian) met a hot Columbiana? Or when we had dinner at Ramon's apartment on Panay Ave.? Or when we had late lunch at Blossom's provincial house? Or when we gulped down an amazing Adobo at Rhoda's house (during a wake, no less)? Or the time Allan and Nins stayed at Blossom's pad and got stoned by Medusa while playing on the rooftop? Even if it's not at someone's house, we had great parties. In fact, we became experts at throwing despedida parties: Diday (one), Armis (one), Ian's (two), Niña (three? We lost count. This one leaves every year!)

17. The movies were great. And we loved to watch movies in malls. If malling were a PE class in Diliman as it is in UP Visayas, we would have graduated Maxima cum laude. We loved Galleria. Some of us had a photo-op with "Jay-R" there. Also we loved to explore Greenbelt where you could watch a movie that looked like "Babae sa Breakwater" even if it's not. And what about our bowling session at SM North way, way back? And wasn't it fun riding the bump cars at Sta. Lucia? Or when we toured a Spaniard to SM Manila (and of course, the whole of Manila)?
18. FOPC. Film Showings at the Film Center and the Faculty Center. Chicharron-&-Gazpacho-eating Contest. Ramen-eating Contest. Habitat for Humanity. Círculo Initiation rites. 8 Waves. Sagada. Biak-na-bato. These are some the many events the Orgullosos participated in that required great strength and endurance. That and when Henz got in La Lola Verano's car. Yup. La Lola Verano and the Fountain of Menace. It was a true story! Gasp!

19. Most of us met our best friend in college. Best times.

20. When we graduated, most of the girls got cum laude or higher honors and the boys were in cum laude standing. And one of them had a 1.76 GWA. Holy crap!

Final Thoughts:

We'll have a sequel, promise. Don't you just miss everyone? Let's create new memories.

Also, for all those Charmies like him, you can get the official companion guidebook to the show at National Bookstore, Quezon Avenue. It's only PhP 650 but it has 270 pages with a full color photo insert and it details almost evrything you might wanna know about the show 'til season 5. Well, the show is currently in it's 8th season, and they're back to having 5 million viewers in the US after the explosive season 7 finale. Season 7 ended it's run on Studio 23 last September. Shameless plugging to the max!

Org-garci: Hindi po. Nagtrabaho na siya sa ABS-CBN as copywriter/producer for CinemaOne. Pero ang malaking balita eh, nag-resign na siya last week sa ABS-CBN.
Madam: Teka, teka, bakit?
Org-garci: Maraming dahilan. Wrong timing. Saka hindi talaga TV producer ang priority niya. Sa magazine po. O writer ng kung anuman, o columnist. Manood kayo ng 13 Going on 30, parang ganun. Puwedeng copywriter pero mas gusto niya print. So stay muna siya sa C-cubed. Itataas kasi ng C-cubed suweldo niya para hindi lumipat sa HSBC. Nagpipiratahan na kasi ng Spanish Agents.
Madam: Ah, ganun ba. O pa'no 'yan?
Org-garci: (Shouts) Sa C-cubed na nga ho muna siya. Siguro kapag itinaas na suweldo saka kapag natapos na mga reimbursements next year by Feb, baka ituloy na n'ya yung sa magazine o sa GMA.

The Evil Enchantress of the Halitoshire Empire put a curse on the not-so-distant, magical kingdom of Orgullo, where she spread chaos and deep sorrow. The King/Queen, the knights, the Elders and the Wizard and the people all lost hope and all efforts for a restoration seemed futile.

The Legend of Sleepy Orgullo: The Fountain of Menace

A magical bird was asked to seek help from the Kingdom land of intelligent and gentle ogres, the Kingdom of Maranan, but was killed by the Evil Enchantress when she spotted the bird attempting to drink from her evil Fountain of Menace, where she had made her slaying potion she always hid in her mouth. She tripled the power of her potion and attacked the Kingdom of Orgullo to wreak havoc and more pain, sorrow, chaos and to finally squander all hopes for a peaceful restoration. But the Wizard Asnallar had a few more tricks up his sleeve (a very royal, velvet-y sleeve, in fact) and he resurrected the fallen knight Sir Donsquixote de Hotel, who in turn had temporarily knocked out La Lola Verano. Is this a new era for the Kingdom? Find out in the conclusion of the most-exciting trilogy in all the land…

The Legend of Sleepy Orgullo: The Return of the Judge

The Orgullosos were astonished by the remarkable restoration of the fallen knight Sir Donsquixote de Hotel. They gathered around him and quite instantly, the strength they needed for a peaceful restoration was available to them. They needed a great plan to vanquish the Evil Enchantress once and for all.

However, the other knights were wondering what happened to the other fallen knight, Lady Mel de Fresno. The Wizard Asnallar explained, “I only had enough potion to resurrect one fallen knight. I’m sorry. But I was able to speak with the Lady and here’s what she had to say before she left.” A hologram of the fallen Lady appeared at the center of the Great Hall of the King/Queen’s castle, where most of the people were lying down after the Evil Enchantress had assaulted them.

“Hola a todos…. As much as I wanted to join all of you to fight off the Evil Enchantress and avenge my demise, I’ve already moved on to a different dimension. I have a new home now, and before I leave, I want you to know that you’ve been missed, and I’m quite mirthful that you’ve missed me, too. I’ve learned so much while floating in different dimensions--I suppose I was finding myself and discerning where I truly belong after my death. The Evil Enchantress was successful in killing this knight, but she was not as successful in slaying Sir Donsquixote de Hotel a year after my death. She was not able to completely kill him. He was just put to a deep sleep and his soul was sent to the ghostly plane--a mystical region between life and death. It was because the evil potion from the Fountain of Menace was flawed. Don’t bury the dead yet. Now I have to go. Sir Donsquixote de Hotel will give you all the details on how to vanquish La Lola Verano. Blessed be….”

Then the magical hologram vanished into thin air.

“She’s right,” Sir Donsquixote de Hotel declared. “We must not give up. The potion was flawed and I just know how to defeat this evil. Come.” He led them to the Secret Chamber of the Wizard Asnallar. They were quite surprised that they were allowed to enter the Secret Chamber, but was told by the Wizard that it’s always been open to anyone close to him, but since it was a magically hidden, it was extremely hard to locate the specific location of his lair.
The Knights of the Circle of Hispanistas, led by Sir Ian de McCalifornia, Sir Bingers de Tierra Pura, Lady Erikqa de Daimos, Lady Ronski von Nursing, Lady Lizzy de Embajada, Lady Marita de la Regla, Lady Dama de Noche Blossoms, Lady Rojo de Peppelzuport, Lady Karina de Farview, Lady Rhodina de Gloria, Princess of Mtobacco Niñanuson, Lady Jisella de Ii-el of the small village of Kubo de Círculo, the seer Erikqa de Daimos, and the Elders led by La Joya Preciosa and La Biloya Dimple and of course, the King/Queen, all followed them. But when Sir Bingers de Tierra Pura, who was last in line, was about to enter the Secret Chamber, he was magically blocked and was thrown off by several feet.

“This chamber was designed to fend off evil,” the Wizard announced. “That means you’re the traitor who sold us to the Evil Enchantress! Arrest him!” The guards took him to custody, but alas! He was too fast and got away. The guards even tried to capture his magical vehicle but the traitor was able to drive it backwards, just to evade the angry knights and the hurt King/Queen. “I believed in him… Why did he have to betray us all… I need to take sit down…,” the King/Queen cried.

Everyone was working double-time to prepare the vanquish of the Evil Enchantress. The knights, led by the resurrected Sir Donsquixote de Hotel, gathered the sleeping Orgullosos inside the chamber, making sure that all of them were not influenced by the evil cyberspacia magic of the Enchantress. The Wizard bathed them in goodness and they just needed one key ingredient to complete the Restoration. “I’ve looked everywhere but I don’t know how to get one cube of the forest mint from Sir Donsquixote de Hotel‘s vanquishing recipe. We‘re running out of time here,” said the Wizard. Princess of Mtobacco Niñanuson asked Sir Ian de McCalifornia, “Did we not go to a forbidden place called The Lost Woodlands of the Mint after reading about it in the library one time to locate the Halitoshire Swamp?”

“You’re right. I even found these silly-looking, green rocks as souvenir and I’ve always kept them with me even when I entered the advance military training for the older knights. Here are the rocks from the forest, Wise Wizard.” He handed them the last ingredient, and the vanquishing potion was completed. The Wizard called it the Judge, for it would give the final verdict on the Evil Enchantress’s fate. He handled everyone the Judge. Just as the sleeping Orgullosos rose from deep sleep, the Evil Enchatress broke in.

“Forgot about me, haven’t you?” said La Lola Verano. “Did you think I would let you defeat me? This silly chamber is no match for my new powers. Die!” Then she gave one strong blow to the Orgullosos, hoping it would kill them all.

But the Orgullosos were prepared this time, and they had risen every sleeping Orgulloso from deep slumber. With the newly-concocted vanquishing potion in their mouths and the blessing of good cyberspacia magick, they chanted: “All together now!”

They all gave the Evil Enchantress their strongest blow, and with that, the final judgment of La Lola Verano was set in stone. While in life she wreaked evil, in after-life, she would burn in the fires of hell. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a fresh breath for an evil breath. This was the Return of the Judge, the omniscient and extremely objective power beyond comprehension.
And so the Kingdom was restored and everyone was happy once again. The restoration would be completed in no time. The Legend of the Sleepy Orgullo became no more, and it would remain forever as just a legend.

The not-so-distant, magical kingdom of Orgullo, previously a happy and peaceful land of brave knights and beautiful people, was cursed by the Evil Enchanress called La Lola Verano. The kingdom became a dark place, and the knights lost their powers. Even the King/Queen hybrid, El Mamá de Baptiste, was not spared. The curse of the Hailtoshire Evil Empire, a fatal epidemic, had banished the hopes of the people for a peaceful and orderly restoration of, what else? Peace and order. With no functioning leaders and flailing hearts, the future seemed more bleak than ever. What would happen now? Read on, as we continue the history behind…

The Legend of Sleepy Orgullo: The Fountain of Menace

A very colorful bird was looking for some place to drink her thirst away. She was originally called Rivera, from the magical forest of Franzia. She saw a body of water in nearby colony, and even though she was carrying a very important message, she decided to fly down and quench her dehydration. “The Fountain of Menace,” she read from the marker. She hesitated at first to drink from it as it did not look like a fountain but instead a swamp. But she knew she would not be able to go on without water. As she was about to sip from the swamp, she glowed mysteriously--then, she exploded to bits, but not before exclaiming, “Bueno, au revoir!”

The Evil Enchantress had struck again.

“’Au revoir’… She spoke strangely, even for a bird,” the Evil Enchantress thought. “I would not let any creature find out where I’ve concocted my infamous Halitoshire potion. The bird must have come from the kingdom. Those knights had better prepare for a great battle for I would not let this invasion just slip away.” Then she started chanting:

Evil swamp take my breath away
Give it the power to kill and slay
Be them far, be them near
Let them die from the smell of fear.

Dark water rose from the swamp and it went directly into the enchantress’s mouth. Lightning struck the Fountain of Menace, and with the third lightning, the spell was complete. La Lola Verano has tripled her slaying potion hidden in her mouth, and as she walked back to her lair, all the remaining living organisms in the Halitoshire Swamp withered.

Meanwhile, in Orgulloland, the knights and the citizens were getting restless. They watched as Lady Dama de Noche Blossoms and Lady Rhodina de Gloria argue about the fate of the colorful bird. Apparently, the bird was supposed to send a message to the remote Kingdom of Maranan, the land of kind and intelligent ogres, to ask for help. There was chaos all over, and the other knights could still not fight because they were still mourning the demise of their colleagues Sir Donsquixote de Hotel and Lady Mel de Fresno.

“This is all the Evil Enchantress’s doing,” exclaimed the King/Queen hybrid. “I still believe we can defeat this demon. I hope you find it in your heart the courage to fight her off. We do not have any idea what happened to Rivera, but I am almost certain that the enchantress had done something and killed her. Otherwise, the Kingdom of Maranan should have sent their most skilled ogres already.” The people of Orgulloland still could not fathom the extent of La Lola Verano’s dark cyberspacia magick, and they were losing every bit of hope in their veins.
Little did they know that in the Secret Chamber of the Wizard, Asnallar had created a spell to summon the spirits of the fallen knights Sir Donsquixote de Hotel and Lady Mel de Fresno, against the wishes of the other Elders, except two, La Joya Preciosa and La Biloya Dimple, two of the highest-ranking Elders. He still believed in the two, and he was certain they hold the answers as to how they could vanquish the Evil Enchantress once and for all. After all, the two fallen knights have been to different planes and dimensions for some time already, and they should have learned a few more secrets in good cyperspacia magick. Then suddenly, there was an earthquake that shook the world of the Orgullosos that send the people into a much deeper chaos.

The Evil Enchantress had attacked and sent everyone flying all over creation with her newly-improved Halitoshire potion. Whenever she breathed, she won. It seemed everyone would die in this battle and the Evil Enchantress was extremely happy with the way her powers turned out after her dark spell. She was about to give her biggest blow yet to the remaining knights and Elders, but she was knocked out without warning. Everybody thought she was killed by her own potion, but she was still breathing, albeit lying unconsciously. Then a familiar voice spoke from behind.

“It’s good to be back.”

Sir Donsquixote de Hotel was resurrected by the Wizard Asnallar!

Come forth, kids. Welcome to the Kingdom of Orgullo, a world filled with excitement, darkness, lust, love, and life. Read on if you have the guts.

The Legend of Sleepy Orgullo

Once upon a time, in a not-so-distant Kingdom of Orgullo, there lived quite a few people who took pride in being the children of their mothers. No one really knows where the kingdom was specifically located, for it was supposed to be hidden by the strongest magick around--the Cyberspacia. Not a single soul in this kingdom was even allowed to speak of the "C" word. The Elders used to say that speaking of the unspeakable word would confuse the minds of anyone in this community.

It was believed that the Kingdom was cursed by an evil enchantress named La Lola Verano. Eons ago, the people in this community dealt with the Evil Enchantress on a daily basis. The enchantress lived in a secluded part of the woods, alone. No other sorcerers or witches could stand the air in that swamp named Halitoshire. Throughout time, the Evil Enchantress felt depressed and the depression sank in until she finally learned how to concoct the weapon of mass destruction--in her mouth. This specialty potion of hers scared off many people, including the members of the Royal Family and the Knights of the Circle of Hispanistas. Everyone wanted peace and a fresh start--without the scary, vein-y, and grumpy old Evil Enchantress. Suffering was utterly unbelievable.

The King-and-Queen (in this unique kingdom there was only one) called El Mamá de Baptiste tried to calm down his loyal subjects, even though he knew that there was another faction that challenged his/her leadership. The faction, named Tiamsky Middle Earth, had relations with the Evil Enchantress, go figure. The King-and-Queen said, "Don't fret. I made it through as a younger soldier/diva when we were in battle." The people who are gathered in the castle's Salón de Chikka were alarmed, including the Queen (his inner diva). They asked in unison, "How was it? Did she use that powerful potion in her mouth?" The tension in the room as the monarch slowly flipped his/her blow-dried hair and answered, "Yes. It was nasty. Fatal. But I survived. Somehow, I've always known that I will survive. My godmother Gloria Gaynor said so." A thunderous applause filled the room as the King-and-Queen sang and danced away, and the people hoped for better times.

There were a lot of reasons why they hoped for better times. One had been that the Princess of Mtobacco Niñanuson had been abducted by hunky tribesmen of Itallia. The Elders said it was part of the curse. The year before that, this same princess was also caged for thirty days by some amazonas in Hispania. Things were looking up, however, for the Elders also declared that the delicate, catty-eyed Princess would return soon and restore some balance. Meanwhile, the small village of Kubo de CÍrculo (where Princess Niñanuson orginated from) was being led by another princess, Lady Jisella de Ii-el. She took care of everything in order for the tribe to grow, as it was being threatened by the barbaric pagans of (once-a-promising-tribe) Pseudoeuropa. But the seer named Erikqa de Daimos, one of the remaining elders of the Kubo de Círculo, had always been optimistic and foretold that the two villages fates would be reversed. The people hoped again, because the Princess of Mtobacco sent the Kingdom a telepathic message that she was dying (to go home). She informed the Orgullosos, the people of the Kingdom, that she too had been studying the magick cyberspacia, but the good version, take note. Perhaps, in her much anticipated return to the Kingdom, she could utilize her handy magickal skills to vanquish the Evil Enchantress once and for all.

Even the Knights of the Circle of Hispanistas were not spared from the evil of the nasty enchantress. She had abducted some of them in the past, including the mighty Sir Ian de McCalifornia, Sir Bingers de Tierra Pura, Lady Erikqa de Daimos, Lady Ronski von Nursing, Lady Lizzy de Embajada, Lady Marita de la Regla, Lady Dama de Noche Blossoms, Lady Rojo de Peppelzuport, Lady Karina de Farview, Lady Rhodina de Gloria, and the Princess Niñanuson herself. Including the Wizard Asnallar de Seekyub, who authored most of the laws and spread the news in the sacred chamber of the Kingdom of Orgullo and who studied the good version of cyberspacia magick, have fought the Evil Enchantress in the past. All of these courageous men and women survived, and the King-and-Queen could not have been more proud of his/her babies, that was why he graduated them from being mere free citizens to being highley-respected knights. The casualties, however, were Lady Mel de Fresno and Sir Donsquixote de Hotel. They fought a good battle in the wars that took their brave, young lives.

But the Evil Enchantress still ruled in the swamp called Halitoshire despite the collective effort of the Knights and the people of the Kingdom. She put a curse on the people and it hoped to squander any hopes of restoration. This was how the legend of sleepy Orgullo started.

This is a new chapter in the lives of the Orgullosos, as we celebrate a new decade of infotainment, campiness, chismes, and whatever it is that we are about. It's everything that you need, and everything that you will ever hope to know, on this earth. (Wait, isn't that like, Beauty? Ahh... the Romantic in us....)

You think you own whatever land you land on? Well, no offense, Pocahontas-baby, Orgulloland is a different world. Witness...

Apparition. Yup, Rhoda's, Mye's and Ian's. Welcome back people! Now we need to get the fever to the other "hibernators". Ian has finally made paramdam this week and it's good to know that he already passed that death-defying, unforgettable U.S. driver's license test. And, congrats on the job, kahit na ba medyo low-paying compared to the other jobs there, it's still ok. Padala naman d'yan!!! As they say, once a call (center) boy, call boy pa rin malamang ang next job, until you get past that phase. Well, usually.

Bedmaking. Apparently, it's the craze nowadays, and the procedure is very scientific according to Butler Don and Nurse Rona. And bathroom-cleaning??? And changing the bed sheets of patients??? Where's the glamour in the world these days? But, happiness on the job can erase that icky feeling associated with human excretory juices. Yay.

Commitment, Commitment, Commitment. These words drive us to continue with our Orgullo baby and will guide us in the future to do just the same. Ian, you shouldn't be surprised that our baby is still making cybernews! Just remember the three key words in ensuring success in everything: Commitment, commitment, commitment. Wait! That's one word three times....

Hospital corners. Yeah, what's that? Rona, 'to naman pala... hospital avenues, esquinitas, etc. Hahaha.

Jiji. How was Spain? We believe you are now in the area of Philippine responsibility. Pasalubong? Olé!

Kaarawan. This August 27th, be prepared for the power of three birthday girls: Mye, Blossom, Melissa F. Advance!

Languages. Specifically, European. Aren't you glad we took E.L. in college and it's not so hard to find a job? Rio and Ian's French connection is so aliw. Uy, Ian... sino ba 'yang Russian delight sa the Golden State?

Meow! Catwoman is the movie of the week. Creepy nung namatay siya at nagluksa ang mga pussycats 'di ba? Nice, fun movie, although we know that Spiderman fans may snob this one. But c'mon, it's Halle Berry....

Ninskipatongers. Miss ka na sa 'Pinas! Uwi!

Ñ. Wait, nag-iisip pa kami. Hirap ng part na 'to....

Orals. As in oral exams. Good luck Marita!

Patella Bone. Ok, according to Ronskipurple, it's the one not connected to any other bone in the body except to a muscle. See? E.R.-speak na siya!

Questionable. As in, Tadjock Questionable of Wazzup on 23. Somehow, with this training in the Orgullo News Online, Allanski might just be a sure-fire hit!

Red tape. Some transcripts may be delayed as usual, e.g. Don's, Ian's, but some might be released this September. At least that what was promised to Allan and Niña by the University of
Pila-ppines.

Sartorial shopping. Marita, this hasn't happened yet. To every all, text your response to Asnallar Mobile (0919-6636979). Sugerencia? Wednesday this coming week at the afternoon (around 3:00) to early evening so we can have dinner. Willing to go or make habol are Mel E., Marita, Blossom, Rhoda, Mye, Allan. The others, text na! (Except Marita. You may just call her at 0979-7754469 because she has a radio/cell hybrid.)

Thirty Days. Nope Blossom, Allan does not watch this one. It's exploiting the lives of the has-beens, like what they did with Raven and Diego. Really, he's not watching. Nadadaan lang sa channel-surfing.

Urban. Why don't we have an urban thing and go out on a gimmick some time? It's been a while. Text na para matuloy ang sartorial shopping. O kahit yung dinner part lang. You know you want it....Hehehe.

Vocation. Some of us are discerning if they want to be a nurse (Ian), a lawyer (Dids), a D.J./writer (Allan), a teacher (Blossom), or a sex-kitten (Nins. Joke). Some have found their way (the butler and the nurse). We support you all in every decision you make. Orgulloso ka, kaibigan!

Warning. Cuidado, there is a taxi hold-up gang lurking out there. We forgot their name, but urban legend tells us that the hold-upper hides in the trunk, and the backseat has an opening/door to let him in and surprise the passenger, then rob him/her up, then throw the victim away. Sometimes, they also kill.

X-men. We know most of you cannot wait till X-men 3 is filmed and shown. Wolverine may not be the bida anymore, but a Phoenix storyline will be much more exciting!

Yellow. Color of the cowards (some psych pipol say), which is what we should call the person who is saying bad things to Rio. And thru Friendster? Grow up kid! (ok, no offense to people using that website, but y'know, some people don't).

Zzzz. Sleep is what we need after working (for some) or studying (for the others). Well, good luck. "Yay' to sleep!

Well, with this special 30th issue of Orgullo Mundo, it will be all about love, el amor, amore, l'amour, liebe, влюбленность, 爱, pag-ibig... whatever you want to call it. Now sit back, relax and read along as we tell you all about the...

30 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT YOU

The brand-new Ian. After his service in Iraq, we heard he has been posted in North Carolina. And we're glad for him because he already got his wish. No more hitchin' a ride. No more walkin' in the clouds. No more commuting in the bus of love. He just got amped with his 2006 Honda Civic! Stateside babes need not ask for more: he's got a brand-new car, US military service record (in Iraq at that), religious family, knowledge of many European languages including great interest in Latin, and unique dancing abilities that will shame Code Red's. Can we talk now, Ian?

Armis. We love the energy, we love the lovers' quarrels, we love your Vicky Vios, we love--¿cómo se dice?... we love to love you, bey-bi.

Mel's passion. She's in New York and blessed to get work now in a Permanent Mission to the United Nations, dealing with African countries. She's currently working on her Spanish, French and learning Portugese at the same time. And she's also been busy pursuing her dream to be an educator. We love you, Mel. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY. :-)

UP Diliman and Círculo Hispánico. We owe a lot to these two institutions. A lot of happy, bittersweet and intruiguing memories. Daily food trips. Slippers and shorts in class. Musical and dance numbers. Friendships and relationships. Medals and scholastic recognition. The best of all: Subsidized tuition fee. And for a select few (who shall remain anonymous): Parental kickback every semester.

The "A" Smile. Don't say cheese. Say "A". Perfect smile everytime. (Thank you, Helen, for the precious education.)

Toothpaste. The genius is, after messing up your hands with bagoong or fish sauce or soy sauce or vinegar in your kamayan session at home or wherever, use toothpaste to wash the smell off your hands. Hey, if it works in your mouth, it should work with your hands.

Diday's smile. Talking about mouths, don't Diday's dentals remind you of Shakira's? There's something about them that's so exotic and endearing which we love so much. Her smile is so infectious you'd wish the tooth fairy was real.

Shakira. This belly-shakin' lady inspired our theme song. No, actually she wrote and sang our theme song, Whenever, Wherever. She did not do it for us originally, but we still feel her. We're one of the first groups in this country to listen to and promote Shaki's music, starting with our cultural masterpiece-theater presentation of Ojos Asi in UST's European Week. And now, she's crossed over to pop superstardom without losing her roots (figuratively and literally, because you just know she wasn't born blond with that dye job.) All that glitters. Silverware, multiple piercings, red wine, porn-inspired text jokes... we just love this young lady manager from Baguio. (Hinding-hindi ka namin aa-Yawan, Ma'am Mye.)

Henz's Sinigang. First step, open your YM, then click Henz's ID (she's usually logged in within European business hours, which roughly translate to 3pm-12mn Manila Time) and you will see her favorite dish on her avatar. Er, we mean, favorite companion... hehehe.

Don loves unlimitxt. And don't you also? That's why he changed his number to 0915-852-4755. However, there's this new rumor going around that Globe's network could not handle the load for unlimited texting and might pull it out. Hmmm, they should do something about that if they wish to please their unlimitxters, especially those who've just switched from other networks, right?

Marita's acting skills. A lot of people in the audience reacted when she she uttered "You don't have to be here because you're just the son of a fishball vendor" during our award-winning STS group presentation (award-winning as in, perfect score from the teacher). But it was all an act, and she deserved a Golden Globe for that. Why just a Golden Globe? Well, the Oscar goes to her amazing, very reserved performance in our commercial for "Glove Handyphone", co-starring Bingo as the Dad and Rhoda as the prodigal daughter.

NGC, as in Niña's Geographic Channel. She leaves almost every couple of months to some lush destination. Just a few weeks ago she had another trip to some exotic location (we just forgot where it was). She might as well pursue a career with National Geographic. Kidding. But we all know Nins' heart is in joining a non-governmental organization so she could help whoever's in need. And meeting different people in her many trips is turning out to be quite a training for her. (Nins, we checked out the "secret shops" in Cubao but they are only open on certain days and at night only.)

WOW Philippines. Karina's also doing her bit, albeit in these islands only. Love your own backyard, then you'll be able to love yourself. A bit of a stretch, but true.

Allan's Discovery Channel. In the last several months, Allan's discovered to use HTML and WYSIWYG editors, the toothpaste-in-your-hand trick, the benefits and the disadvantages of Explorer and Firefox, the joys of reliving 80's pop rock and R&B, some effective ways of online advertising, the extreme craziness of Mad TV, the pros and cons of hair relaxing and rebonding on virgin hair, how to get mall store managers to offer you VIP discount cards for your (well-timed) visits and (well-spaced) purchases, and so, so, so much more. Oh, it helps also if you have paid holidays like he's had in the last three weeks. Yeow!

Smart Wi-fi. Nins and Allan have it. Anyone else in the club? "Double your speed, double your fun." Gosh, let's hope Smart Communications pays us for that witty tagline.

Rhoda, the Dancing Queen. Rhoda danced all the way to our hearts and tummy with that mouth-watering chicken adobo (Allan can't forget it because he isn't very fond of adobo but he looooved that one). She also entertained us by being flipped on the dancefloor on all directions by...

Bingo, the Dancing King. In other words, the one who flipped Rhoda on all directions. We also loved his flipping Henz during our musical-cum-debate extravaganza in our legendary STS class (we're such a talented bunch!) to the tune of Britney's remake of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, which was the song we related to "Science & Technology Innovations in Today's Society", which was our chosen topic (we're such a poetic bunch!).

Shake it, Eky. While we're on the subject of dancing, don't we all recall Eky's choreography and musical numbers? Isn't there a way that we can have a Círculo Hispánico Alum Party with a Latin fiesta theme?

Package deals. Anthony and Cleopatra. Beavis and Butthead. Tina Turner and Ike Turner. Rustom and Carmina. Paris and Nicole. Nancy Calimlim and Marc Falcon. Ahh... Love those package deals.

Mel Fresno Designs. You might not have seen her a lot hangin' out with us especially before we graduated, but it was only because she's so focused on her new path in interior design. Will there be a grand party in her family's rancho when she graduates? Hmmm... just call our name and we'll be there....

Nikki's graduation speech. Can't believe it's been two years already since our graduation? You'd better believe it. We just loved her valedictory speech. Wouldn't it be nice if we can go back to experience the simple life in college once again? Although, we're sure you don't want to re-live the unbearable heat during our College of Arts Commencement Exercises 2004 at the scorching Hardin ng mga Diwata.

Jiji's perseverance. We love her spirit and how she wanted to pursue a Master's Degree in Spanish, even if she doesn't get enough sleep because of work. Keep inspiring all of us, Jiji. :-)

Rona, legally and clinically A-bomb! She's always been beautiful and fit, and even became a beauty queen with her hectic schedule. Invite us, too, on your grad party, Nurse Rona! With us, you'll always have a ready PEP Squad cheering you on. (see the pictures again of her victory here!)

Jewel in the Palace. Actually, it's Jewel in Washington, D.C., as that's where the World Bank is based. We heard she already has a place of her own there and even did some shopping a few months back for things for her new home. We're dying to see some photos of your new palace, Jewel. :-)

Dimple's work ethic. We are fans of Dimple's values. Some of us worked with her for Voicelog (and you remember how some little be-yotch of a co-worker made Dimple cry but Dimple simply came out on top), and we knew she also did a little stint at the Venezuelan Embassy (where she experienced a bit of difficulty with some stone-cold co-workers but she held her UP pride high), and some of us are currently working with her in Thomson Financial (where you've seen her grow to be a fine, young adult that she is today). She loves her job and she showed us that love don't cost a thing (sic).

Irene's inner diva. Did you know that "Irene" meant "peace"? We love her quest for inner peace and that she's a great supporter of our little online magazine. Well, we didn't want to disappoint anyone of you who reads our online magazine so here we have our milestone 30th issue!

Blossom's adventures. Our lady adventure-seeker Blossom is going to whitesand beach of Bora. And we believe her next stop would be in Spain? B., don't forget about the pasalubong, wherever you are. We will love any tiny remembrance from your endeavors. :-)

Swimming. We loved night swimming as a group. In fact, there's a little mermaid, or mer-man, in all of us. Can someone arrange another reunion-cum-swimming for the hopefuls? Summer's the perfect time to indulge our love for night swimming! (Heck, even All Saints who disbanded on bad terms five years ago are doing a reunion album this year.)

Hey ya, kids! It's now time to make a change, just relax, take it easy, we're still young, it's not our fault, we have so much to go through...

It's........ ORGULLO SUPERSTAR!

Yeah, that's what we are, coming from afar, reaching for the star, come away with us to another place, where we rely on each other, uh-huh?

Looks like we made it... It's been eighty-three thousand, five hundred twenty minutes... eighty-three thousand, five hundred twenty chismis since our beloved online baby debuted last June 4, 2004. And it is a tribute to you and to all of us that we made it through the rain. We stood up again and again on our own, and we know that we are strong enough to reestablish our fave newsletter which went into hibernation since the last issue of the printed edition came out last September 2003, which was the 10th issue, the same as event as we are celebrating today with the online edition.

So throw yo' hands in the air, and wave them like you just don't care. ‘Cause tonight is the night, and we're feeling all right. We'll be making news the whole night through. Why? 'Cause we've been saving all our news for you.

Are you ready for this week's jelly?

You're not crazy, maybe just a little unwell, we know. Right now you can't tell, but it's just the return of Rhoda. She's been watching the same old channels, listening to the same old songs. That's why she wants to shake her groove thing, yeah, yeah, and wants to get rowdy, feeling like a little naughty and wants to get dirrty. She's free beginning this 4pm until Monday. Sayaw kikay!

It's been quite a while since we got a taste of Mye. Don't be fooled by the rocks that she's got. She's still Mye from the block. But where's the love now, Mye? Love is all around, it's everywhere she goes, that's why even if biophysically and internetically (o…. word ba 'yan?), we're officially missing her. Can't nobody do without you baby girl.

Niña can't get out of her head the smoking, son-of-a-gun feeling of Winston Lights. "Winston Lights lang ang nasa isip ko. Hinahanap-hanap kita. Kailangan kita. Tanging pag-ibig ng buhay ko. Nais kong malaman mo na ikaw ang tanging bugá ng baga ko. Winston Lights talaga," she sings.

It's a beautiful day for Allan's regularization, and it might be the sweetest thing, oh--woo-oh, the sweetest thing because it means he'll have double the number of leaves and benefits than the ordinary people, several increase in basic pay and "14-month pay". But it's not all 'bout the money. Don't you think it's funny? The workplace used to be his playground (used to be), and thankfully, it still feels like the same.

Jewel, we know your grams love is shining down on you from heaven. ‘Cause everywhere you go, every smile you see, you know that she's there, smiling back at your family. She's okay.

Who is that "you-know-who" Eky sees, staring straight from Círculo's kubo to Tomo Kai's? When will that person's true Círculo reflection show? But thank you, India, for the CAL and UP-wide recognition. Is it raining Fil-Am men pa rin sa Círculo tambayan, by any chance?

A whole new world and dazzling place is that Pan Pacific Hotel in Adriatico corner Malvar in Malate (although the dry wall and fresco ceiling effect were poorly executed) where Don has been hired. It's not hard to find, from way up there, it's crystal-clear that you can find the neon-green signage and it's like a whole new world hotel for you.

Nosi? Nosi ba lasi? Read Henz's Personality test and you'll see, maybe you don't know me like you used to do, baby. The test wants you to turn the beat around, know yourself, and feel the rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat on the drums.

Ian, why did you build us up with that two-night despedida par-tey last May? You never call (or e-mail) baby when you say you will. But we love you still. Love don't cost a thing, just a simple hi will make us spread our wings to prepare to fly like butterflies. Hehe. It will take a lifetime to get over you....

Is it a hard-knock life for Blossom at Thomson Financial? Because we haven't heard from you in a while. It's like "ay! nabali!" ang mga updates mo sa amin.

Armis, we kind of remember that you'll have one or many nights in Bangkok? Is it real, or do the words we speak before you make you feel like this chismis is so not true? Wherever, whenever you go, Subic man, Quezon, Laguna, Boracay or Bangkok, alam naming babalik kang muli. Ang mga araw at sandaling kasama mo kami ay mahirap makalimutan.

Kung siya'y pagmamasdan, siya'y cool na cool, mas cool pa sa feeling ng kanyang swimming pool. Pero Marita's striving, preparing for tomorrow in Law School. We gotta love ya, tomorrow. You're always a day away. Kung hindi, sa makalawa na yun.

Now, Marita-inspired Diday feels she's so overprotected by the family. she may not yet be a full woman but she's not a girl anymore. She’s just trying to find the woman in her. All she needs is time. She is strong enough to live without any outside influences and excessive guidance.

We believe that love is the answer and that love will find a way to last. Congratulations to Marc and Nancy for keeping it together. Not more than 3 short years ago, Nance felt a bit abandoned and alone, without a Falcon by her side, so very young and so afraid. Now, three years later, something tells us that it might just be really the two of you....

If last night a Lindsay Lohan movie saved your life, today Imelda Marcos will preserve yours, Rio. If you watch this, you'll not just get a little bit of ecstasy, a little bit of you and me, a little bit of our amusing history, but a distorted philosophy and reality which will make you tell Imelda: Stop! Thank you very much, but we need somebody with the human and sane touch.

Dimps, ikaw ang tanglaw ng Maykapal, sagot sa aming dasal (sa mga hindi nakakaalam ng alfajor). Thank you, for showing us what the word means, for letting us know what it is, and what it's not. That is something that we haven't tasted before--that's alfajor....

Ikaw rin, Mel F. Kailan? Kailan mo ba mapapansin ang aming e-mails? Kahit anong pa-cute na gawin, 'di mo pa rin pinapansin. We don't have a wooden heart, you know. But you just knock three times on the ceiling if you miss us, and we'll cry a river na. LOL

Before we let you go, we want to say...

Can you feel the love tonight? How do you solve a problem like Maria? Dito ba? O dito ba? Dito ba? Where do we go from here? Does "la-la" really mean "I love you"?

Now if you need us, call us, e-mail us. No matter where you are. No matter how far, don't worry, baby. You'll always be our baby and we'll linger on. Time can't erase a feeling this strong. This won't be a broken vow.

First of all, condolences to Jewel's family. Her grams, Irene Garcia Bantugon, passed away last Thursday, July 22. She was 87. Here is Jewel's message: "Her remains lie at the Funenaria Paz - the one that's in Manila Memorial Park, Sucat Paranaque. Interment will follow after the 2pm Mass on Sunday, July 25th. Please join me and my family in prayer for Inay's eternal peace and happiness and for her reunion with our Creator. Thank you very much and God bless you all."

Here's a booboo. Our newsletter #8 was dated July 10, but really it was issued on July 17. No biggie, just minor, but we just wanna keep things straight. Y'know, for chronology's sake and all.

Okay, this is fresh news. Nancy Drew, este, Calimlim is working for a TV network na daw, per Karina Santillan. As in working for the network, not just in the network's building. Congrats! Spread the E.L. fever everywhere. (Wait, there is?)

Allan's recommendation:
13 going on 30. Watchable, fun, touching. Some scenes are so-so, others average, many funny, and that Thriller dance sequnce is la bomb! Sadly, when he checked the soundtrack for the movie, all the good Eighties songs are there, except Thriller, which is the most prominent song in the movie. But Allanski recommends this one. It's about getting second chances, not giving up on love, and fighting for your best friend....

Speaking of second chances, o sige na, Blossom, wawa ka naman at nasira TV sa pad mo. For your benefit, natanggal kagabi si William Thio at Anna Larucea sa 30 Days. (ay, bakit na naman natin 'to alam?) Tama ka Blossom, maganda lang boobs ni Francine kapag naka-bra.

Sorry, Dimple, we still haven't gone back to DECL to get that address of the all-boys high school where they need a Spanish language teacher.

Aloha, kids! Can we just say that we missed ya? How have you been? Have you eaten your dinner na? O, you sleep early ha so that you'll have a nice rest... o, you put down the phone first... O sige na... put down the phone na... you muna... No... baby 'kaw muna... okay, sabay tayo... 1... 2... 3.... Oras na para sa mga balitang pasaway! 'Eto ang episode ocho na!

This week's crazy news:

We are still on that "belated joyeux anniversaire" kick for a lawyer wannabe, Candiday, who is in her GRO mode because recently balikbayans in her family have been so quick to have her run the it-can't-wait errands. We look forward to the day na magpapacanton na si Diday, after siguro magaan na ang load n'ya sa French and Thesis at puwede na niyang ma-email si Jewel. We're obsessing that we still haven't raped her wallet yet for a wholesome celebration of the birth of a wonderful baby girl 2 decades ago.

Speaking of, our "Decade Episode", i.e. Episode#10 will be something to look forward to. Can you tell that we are promoting this one so passionately? You bet your musical mommas we are.

Konichiwa to our Asian babe in Italy who is so obsessed with the hot janitors and police officers, that she can't stop saying a vetro to them. Niña says a vetro is "bottoms up" in Italian, FYI.

Hey, do you guys remember Mye's "bottoms up" when she makes sisid the water? Last week, Allan was watching a 7-minute video clip taken last year in Mye's Tito's house in QC. Hey, do you also remember that she did not ask permission to use that swimming pool two summers ago?

Last week also, Allan killed time by watching old VHS recordings and he found our STS commercials tape and it was so hilarious. The best one was the Marita, Rhoda and Bingo's Globe ad. So obsessed! Another recent obsession of Allanski is eating Spanish-style sardines with rice and patis with calamansi. Yum!

Another food obsession is that alfajor. (Uh, raise your hand if you also don't know what this is?). Newly-hotel hired Don promised that he'll make pipol patikim. We'll see... Galing ka pala ng Baguio. Lamig siguro.

Marita, isn't a 3-hour study period per subject too... academic for any of us? Good to know this is not a qualified obsession because, what about your night life? You've got to boogie pa rin naman.

We are intrigued if Rona is still obsessed with the color blanco.

Obsessed with her job? That's Dimple, who declares she "loooves" her job but would like to check out that teaching job at that all-boys high school. We'll try to get a contact number for those parties interested.

Right now, Karina is still obsessing with the fact that she still have not received her certification bonus. Don't worry, hija, malapit na.

Blossom proposes a gathering of some sort. Sorta kinda like an obsession for her, since malamang walang nakapunta dun sa Bastille Day Chuva na sinasabi n'ya, kaya't ngayon naman ay nangangarap siyang mag-EK (oo, habang wala si Niña... ay lugi pala tayo, nasa Italy siya...).
Jiji in Salamanca, who's obsessing in backpacking all over Europe with Ivy (whoever she is), has proposed that the UP Círculo Hispánico stage this year's Fiesta Española focusing on the objects of the five human senses. Amazing!

We are so thankful that you are still obsessed with our baby, Orgullo News Online. Really, it's for the good of mankind. Tabloidal sensationalism is so fetch right now.

But it's absolutely not sensational that girl friends fight. Okay, we know Blossom and Rio found an obsession in Mean Girls after watching it, but, love is still the answer. Don't be a meanie if other girls like Henz did not like the hybrid Jawbreaker-Clueless-Cruel Intentions-Never Been Kissed chick-flick. Love is the answer. Love will keep us together. Everyone in the movie forgave each other in the end, so maybe we could all learn from that. Coolness di ba? But you must agree, Lindsay Lohan is so much fetch-ier than Hillary Duff!

Where is Armis? Obsessed with the gym lately?

Where is Eky? Obsessed with Fil-Ams lately? You have apps to think about....

Where is Ian? Obsessed with West Coast babes lately?

Where is Irene? Probably hunting Diday now, because of the utang, which Diday promised to settle before she graduates.

Where is Rhoda? We're guessing, she's with La Joya everyday. Oy, kamukha mo daw sister mo ah. Itago mo 'yan kay Dean.

Where are the two Melissas? In the Rizal province is our best bet. 'Cause that's where they live.

Hola kids! Here we are once again and we are face to face, breathing as one, changing the course of destiny…. Okay… not really… but we’re so glad to see ya! As promised, this is the much-awaited 2nd episode this week, which makes this our issue#7. Yay! Panalo! But before we celebrate, we want to admit that we made a goof last week when we forgot to mention our ever adorable and studious future lawyer, Marita Mina. What is legalese for "our fault"? Wea culpa? Cute.

This is issue #7:

Marita, we miss you na. Hope you are at least enjoying law school even if you allot 3 hours of study time per class. And yeah, about your prize, we really have to work out a schedule. You never know, it has earned an interest already…. Hehehe.

As you know, Orgullo, like our country the Philippines, also has many OFWs, meaning Overseas Filipino Were-students like Niña and Jiji, who are in Italy and Spain right now, respectively. Why were-students? Like a werewolf, which is not a complete wolf technically, hence, were-students, i.e. Niña and Jiselle, are in other countries supposedly to study, but we think they are having more of a good time there then immersing themselves in the academic world. Which is fine, because this is just an assumption. Wait, does it sound like we’re bitter because some of us never made it past Luzón? Yup…. Good luck there and we hope you bring us pasalubongs. Niña arrived in Reggio Calabria, Italy after almost a day of flying and driving around. Meanwhile, la prez Jiji is in Spain, basking in the heat of summer sunshine like nobody else. Don’t worry. Jiselle, we all know what the weird Spanish sun can do to your piel morena. Right, Nins?

A previous OFW in Japan, Diday, celebrated her birthday on July 7. Best wishes and magpa-canton ka naman.

Another former OFW in Madrid, Karina, was officially proclaimed "Certified Multilingual CSR" at Source1Asia last Wednesday morning. Congratulations!

And yet another former OFW in France (I guess you now know the major trend this episode), Rio, has this message to Henz: "Langya ka naman, kinalimutan mo ‘ko." Of course, she was just making lambing as Henz did not intentionally forget her.

He is not technically an OFW in Cali but an immigrant. Ian, ano na kaya’ng happening d’yan, Amboy?

Now she is not an OFW, not even an Orgullosa (yet), but we still love her. Nikki, the beloved speaker of the CAL grads this April, is rumored to be in Europe, and we think it’s France. Really…one of these days one of you girls is going to have to bring us Pinoy folks to Europe or somewhere.

Well, Batanes would be nice, but according to the Inquirer, it may cost a person 13-15 grand to travel there. No kidding. But it would be nice to go there, Allan and Niña think so, because it would look and feel like we would be in an episode of The Lord of the Rings.

Speaking of, today is July 10, and it’s Allanski’s anniversary at work. (Fireworks!=) He is a little enfermo but still went to work. So dedicated. Hahaha.

Our next birth anniversary celebration is a triple treat. On August 27, Mye turns 21, Blossom turns 21 and Mel Fresno turns 22. Lookin’ forward na!

Some of us are also looking forward to two days after the day after tomorrow because it’s salario time once again!

We are also looking forward (my, we have two trends this week) to Rhoda’s and Rona’s respective updates on their semi-charmed lives.

Not so looking forward to every morning are Bingo and Eky, who are still being tortured every time they have to take La Lola Verano 101. But at least Eky is not as afraid and imbyerna with La Lola as in the past. May time pa siyang tapusin ang UP Círculo Hispánico recoginition papers this week, AT makipag-tutor-an sa mga kalahating ‘kanó who are going to stay in UP ‘til August. We are so looking forward to meet ‘em! Eky, introduce us naman!

Now, in Cybernews: Dimple, overflowing na ‘ata email mo, medyo mahirap ‘atang magsend at pinagpapawisan si Mailer Daemon Bradley! And y’all people might wanna check out the chuckle e-mail Don forwarded.

Movie of the week: Mean Girls. A lot of fun, a lot like Jawbreaker and Clueless and other teen movies. But fun.

Hi, kids, we are Orgullo News Online. Welcome to the show!

For the first time ever, we had an Orgullo News Online Advisory last Saturday. We are sorry about the delay of issue#6, and we'll make sure we'll have issue#7 out by the end of this week. Talk about act of penance! Anyway, we have so many surprises for you and this will be a super-exciting episode once again, featuring the lives of the Orgullosos. Kaya't sumunod sa na galaw mo, sumusunod.... Game na?

This week's surprises:

Armis. Yes, our little profesora in Subic finally surfaced and showed us an amazing skin, pretty hair, and a new gym body. She just celebrated her birthday, and hopefully we will be graced by that wonderful celebration very soon. We love her hair, the face, the new phone, the fact that she does not have a controversial affair in Subic. Ano talaga ang surprise? Sila na ulit ng beybi nya. Armis' new email address is armis_bajar@hotmail.com.

Diday. This girl is our next birthday celebrator. Mark your calendars on July 7.

Niña. Surprise, surpirse! Her flight was delayed--again--and moved to July 4, 11:55 PM (Manila time). Sabi na nga ba. But the bigger surprise is... it pushed through! We'll miss you, Ninskipatongers. See you in September with that huge balikbayan box. FYI, you can text and call Nins through this number: +639162051178 and the rates that apply will be the existing rates from your current provider. In short, si Niña ang lugi kapag siya and nag-contact s'atin. And, her new e-address (hmm... sensing a new pattern this week) is: matc.manuson@gmail.com. She says you can disregard the other e-mail addresses she had before. The e-address change has nothing to do with the viral infection of her existing e-mails, we think, but because she's a G-girl now.

Allan. A new moderator of the Orgullo yahoogroup, Allan just learned a new trick last week, and that is the wonders of the bluetooth technology. Also, since he will be celebrating one year on Saturday at Source1Asia, his performance appraisal will guarantee at least half-a-Grand increase in the basic salary. And hopefully, his regularization process would be completed in August, which means another guaranteed 2-Grand increase in the basic pay. Where's the party? Surprise.

Blossom. Haay... Tsk, Blossom, kasi bakit mo sinabi kay Carey na magreresign ka sana after a year.... We loved the whole lacey-Matrix look last Wednesday pala when we were supposed to watch Spiderman 2 but we just ate at Chef d'angelo instead. Ey, nice to see Emmy again.

Mye. She was supposed to join us last week but the heavy rains did not allow her. Nag-drama pa nang akala niya si Armis lang ang naka-miss sa kanya, pero of course, kaming lahat miss ka namin... pahingi naman ng silver o....

Ian. Paat, may gafas ka na pala. Gulat kami.

Rio. She just finished her training last Tuesday sa Alliance and last Thursday she began her work and she has now a paycheck to aspire towards. By the way, Rio's new e-address is rosarioguingab@yahoo.com.

Rhoda. We thought we were going to be surprised by an apparition of Rhoda last Wednesday but, alas! There was a black-out in the Rizal province and unfortunately she couldn't come.

Karina. A surprising insider news is she just got certified Monday night and the official announcement will come after. Of course, Allan is the insider, nasa sentro ng balita. At dahil pala nasa harap si Allanski nung mga taong magrerelease ng certification ni Karina kaya ito'y napagalaman. Hehehe.

Nance & Marc. Spotted last week at UP Art Circle, this couple will soon celebrate three years of love and affection. Marc surprised us again with that mustache.

Mel Espiritu. This gal wanted to know if we had attended any worthy seminars back in college. As far as we know, nada. She actually surprised us when she texted last Wednesday when some of us were at Gallería.

Mel Fresno. Surprise! May boytoy na 'ata si Mommy Mel from USTe. Pero we need to verify this tidbit first before spreading the news like the one about the 2nd envelope last Edsa Dos.

Don. He is now working day shifts. Apparently, it's better to work early in the morning instead of graveyard hours. Allan has been declaring that for 8 months already since he started working on a fixed early morning sked last November. Surprisingly, from what we could remember, Don wanted a night shift before because he did not want to wake up early in the morning. But now he's seen the logic of sleeping at night is actually, logically, strategically better.

Eky. Her new calling? Surprisingly, it's manicurista for Niña. Gotta say, nice work on the buffing and everything. At para naman hindi amoy Gudang 'di ba, dapat linisin!

Jiji and the new Círculo. Catchy, isn't it? Alright, while la prez is in Spain doing a nerdy mission a li'l bit of backpacking, the galamays in Manila are working to get recognized again by CAL and UPD, and--surprise (yey!)--a fiesta española before the sem ends. Good luck!

Henz. She already started taking in calls last week and her work sked is 9 AM to 6 PM. Aba't ito'y regular Makati girl!

Rona. Girl, surprise us naman o...one of these days... Hehehe.

New members. Just an update, we have new members in Orgulloland, Jewel, Dimple and Rio. Alam n'yo na naman 'ata kaya 'wag nang ma-surprise d'yan. 'to naman pala.

Howdy, kids! How's it goin'? So nice to be back. As predicted, this issue could be titanic. Well, that can be true, we aren't exactly sure, but we can be certain that this will be a little meatier than last week's issue. Can't believe we're issue#5 already? You'd better believe it. You make the news, we just write about it. (Nakks!)

This week's top stories:

As you know, Dimple and Jewel are alumnae of the UP Círculo Hispánico just like most of us are alumni of the club. Well, they are Orgullosas now, and they are happy to be a part of this group. Likewise, we are proud to have them.

Jewel has informed us that Rhoda will be her partner soon in the ever-growing world of Thomson Financial, where Arlyn, Gold, Tara and Blossom are working on a Latin American sked. La Joya Preciosa says "hi!" to everyone. By the way, they need daw two multilingual analysts pa, so Niña, wanna be a Makati gurl?

We then think that a "congratulations!" to Rhoda is in order. Good job for getting--er--the job! After Job-hunting last weekend, you now will be employed. We look forward to cashing out the first pay check.

Also congratulations to Armis who has completed a year at Brent. Is it true about the salary increase chismis? Libre!!!

Hmm, who is next to celebrate a happy 1st anniversary in the workplace? oy, fishing....
Dimple, who looks like Dimples Romana, is living now in Makati and quite happy with her present job at Thomson. She's reminiscing on how she had a bad experience at the embassy she previously worked at. Good thing Mel Espiritu is happy at the Mexican Embassy. We're happy too, and what better way of being happy than to get that ATM card and work it out and let's have a happy-happy!

Happy also is another Orgullosa (seeing a trend here?) and current prez of the UP Círculo Hispánico, Jiji, who flies to España la próxima semana! She bought her euros from Mel Baizas and she is flying in there with another E.L. graduate who may not be famous with a lot of people, Joderick, and is currently known as Erick in Allan's office.

Here's a statement from la prez Jiji: “Guess what? Inducted na si Patty, Diday and Reimund. And were going to have apps orientation later 5:30 pm. I’m online as early as 4 am coz of this blasted internet card. Nway, kumikintab naman ang tambayan but not as shiny when we cleaned it last time.hehe Well, I'll just be updating you guys if there are activities to come. Especially pagmalapit na ang Formal Interview. Ey Nin, could I ask for Crystal's cell number. And Blossom, paano yung funds? May budget daw for the banner? I'll keep in touch. Godbless. P.S. I would like to inform you all that any financial assistance would be greatly appreciated.”

For those of you who are missing UP already, it's still the same old, yet lacking the presence of the cuties that we are. C'mon, admit it. Where are the cute faces in UP now? Almost nowhere to be found? Where are the happiest, smartest, most sensible but wackiest peeps of the University? Paubos na ata. Kaya nga Dids, Mel Fresno, Jiji, Eky, graduate na. To get inspiration, watch the Magpakailanman episode on the life and hardships of Bingo at the University, who, the by the way, is set to graduate this sem.

You got served? Well, Eky also got served with happiness as La Lola Verano remembers her and she is now treated well, at least better than their first class together. See? Zebras can't change their stripes but some animals can....

Speaking of animals, our resident teddy bear Ninskipatonger's email has been affected by a virus and don't you dare open them because they might unleash pandora's box in the cyberworld. On other news, Nins also tried job-hunting last weekend and amazed a guard at Accenture about her E.L. degree. She might not get the job but hey, you fly to Italia next week, that's enough reason to be happy di ba? What's wrong with being an unemployed magna cum laude graduate? (ok, rub it in....=)

Marita, the happy winner of our Orgullo#2 contest, is waiting for her prize. Maybe when Niña holds another--final--despedida party we can give it to you?

Happy is the Ronskipurple, whose email seems to has been fixed already.

And Karina, who is undergoing pre-certification at Source1Asia now.

And Marc Falcon, Nance's boylet, who was spotted sporting a mustache. He was of course with Nancy.

And now... the not-so-happy news...

Remember when most of the girls wanted to go to the Fete de la Musique in Libis last Saturday? Niña got there first, then Blossom, Diday, the brothers, Rio, and El Mamá and El boytoy Deguilla. We knew Mel E. wanted to go there with Dimple and La Joya, but we're not sure if they went because of the rain (!) which cancelled the scheduled gigs of the bigger bands. You can't have 'em al, can you? Niña, did you enjoy the American ethnic band? Rhoda could not make it because her sister said she was at PAL, and also Henz was raring to go but couldn't also, 'di ba Nins? Allan went home early that day, he supposedly had three lakads to choose from, but he slept through dawn and was not able to attend any. Hehehe Problem solved.

But she is also sad because 'yung despedida party ay wala ng bisa!

Is it true that Rio applied for a job at Alliance France? Yup, and she wants to go to the Fete de la Musique on June 19 to earn brownie points. More on this issue later.

What's going on in La Lola Verano's hell--er--classroom? Eky and Bingo are her students, and 7a.m. is when they die of halitosis infection daily. Husmaryosep!

Something really to look forward to is Imelda, obviously a docu-feature film starring Imelda Marcos herself. It will be shown July 7, during the birthday week of the former First Lady. We hope we can all catch it. Unless Blossom insists on watching Nora kiss Yul Servo in the bath tub...

Hello there, kids! And so we meet again.... A lot actually has happened in the last few days, and we'd like to share it with y'all, so this issue will be a rather epic. 'Etong si Blossom, hindi na nagsisi sa mga patay sa Troy, nakakita tuloy ng putol na daliri sa isang obscure but very view-able Franco-Pinoy film sa Greenbelt. At natapos ang película na nasa isip ni Allan at Blossom na Babae sa Breakwater ang pinapalabas. Tsk, 'kala pa naman namin super galing na ng mga Pinoy actors na super speak-a-French sa puting-tabing. At ito'y kahit sa sabungan ay dilang Marie Antoinette!

This week's top stories:

First stop... it was Henz's "co-apparition" week! Following the surprising Ronskipurple event last week, Henz, our gurl in Peoplesupport, has informed us that she is being trained by the company in an online university-type setting, where she takes language and I.T. classes. Unfortunately, she still did not tell us regarding the hefty paycheck everyone was so curious about. She works at the Makati call center of PeopleSupport.

"Sus, meron din kami n'yan," jokes Ms. Valiente, the other Makati girl, regarding the online study program. Blossom also trains online, works 4-5 hours a day, goes to the carinderia or the "t.A.T.u central station", and gets paid for 8 hours of service. That's why she is able to keep a glorified bodega cum pad near Buendía, but, more on that later.

The other bida in this "co-apparition" week is Ms. Mye Yawan, who joined us during the pad-warming party attended by three--including the hostess. Area Manager Mye watched the French film at Greenbelt with Nins, Blossom, Rio, Diday, Marita, Eky and Allan. Rhoda wanted to ir but couldn't, Henz wanted to seguir but couldn't, Armis also couldn't. And so, the Fabulous Eight--armed with Marita's inch-thick readings for a 1-hr Law School class, Nins' former foot spa sold!… to Ticketta Maginhawa, Eky's very enjoyable Timezone card, Rio's mysterious aura, Diday's and everybody's digicams--watched the movie the title of which we don't know exactly, thought it was Babae sa Breakwater, we ate, played, toured the malls, saw Juddah Paolo and Andrea del Rosario (yes, fue ella, no arguing), then one by one the players were voted out, until the Final Three--Allan, Blossom and Niña--trooped to the apartment and chatted the night away, this time with just a bag of V-cut & 2 liters of Sprite, and lots and lots of echoing hilik.

Cliffs Notes Version: Blossom's apartment, Dain St., white paint, linoleum floor, flourescent lighting, 1 door, 1 tiny window, 1 bathroom shared with a granny, 1 shallow sink, 1 table, 1 sofa bed, 1 bunkbed, 1 cabinet, 1 tiny TV, 1 wall fan, 1 stove, 1 plancha set, 1 airy rooftop (this one you gotta climb, pretty cool), all-in-all, fair price 'coz inclusive na ang power at water. Just stay away from the landlady's eyes and you won't turn into stone.

Then the Final Three also went to Gallería after brunch the next day, ate some more, watched Shrek 2 (finally!), braved the rains and tambay-ed a bit. Yes, it's true, Niña and Blossom, you can blow a week's budget in less hours than you can imagine. Ok, so the Final Three are all poor now and we're glad we didn't go clubbing anymore the night before. At least we can say we saw the Thunderbirds trailer ahead of everyone... we think....

Coming soon: Rio has applied for a job at Alliance France (tama ba?), and should be moving in to her girl's apartment soon.

Lizzy Mcguire Espiritu sends out her love for all of us and apologized for not being able to attend our recent citas. By the way, she thinks Orgullo News Online is such a sweet, useful thing that it may eclipse the invention of the wheel! HaHa!

No offense to the wheel, but something that should eclipse that is the upcoming birthday celebration of the glorious Rhodalicious on June 15. We say, leave her sister alone for one day and let's have a fiesta! Actually, they suggest to let us have a French Music Day with the celebrator on June 19 at Eastwood. Martin Manuson said it should be a bl-ast!

Speaking of Manuson, Niña's trip to Italia has been postponed--again!--and she'll now leave July 1. So in case may pera pa siya, we must dine daw together sa Chef d'angelo, watch Spiderman 2 or Imelda, then pretend she has to leave again....he he he... No, totoo na siguro iyong July 1.

In business news: The real Orgullo website is being planned. Eky will handle it, Allan will take care of the funding for first year use of the domain name only, additional funding must be shouldered by the rest, and then editorial content will come from us. The yahoogroup shall remain, it's our private mailing list, but the website should be accessible to every netizen, especially that Niña et al have plans to offer review classes to students in U.P. and outside of U.P., e.g. high schools that offer Spanish and French. And to achieve that, we have to have a credible website, and so, we will officially call the group ORGULLO, and we'll drop "de mamá". We had a quorum when this was decided (Nins, Allan, Eky, Diday, Blossom.) But as mentioned, the orgullo_de_mama@yahoogroups.com will stay, and La Niña may post new pix from this week's happenings. Guys, kikita at sisikat tayo sa website kapag natuloy, Orgullo News will be transformed from Balitang K to the Probe Team, and we'll gain respect, and develop business and better language skills, and tal vez in the future this will be the most coveted E.L. job ever. We can also sell merchandise there. Think about that!

---Diday's house is still under martial law, and mahirap gumimik kapag ganyan.
---Marita will have to allot 3 hours to study for a 1-hour subject in Law School. Tsk.
---Eky and Bingo will have to wake up early everyday now that for sure La Lola Verano will resume teaching. Eky also had "fans" when she was in Timezone, Greenbelt.
---Nancy will march in March, but as for now, she is a bum.
---Karina is getting famous in Source1Asia--mukha kasing tunay na española. She'll also try to prepare to take up M.A. Int'l Studies.
---Allan is planning to take up Italian in the future because he comes from Aquino, Italia, of course (HeHe), pero right now he is also thinking of auditing in a basic Spanish class with his friend Francis, kinda like a refesher.
---Rona's e-mails have been wonky lately, we don't know why.
---Jiji's job as the new club prez is very challenging, considering that the new member/officers can't even manage to care to give her their skeds.
---Armis, a minor player in this "co-apparition week" was spotted this week in UP, but then she had to go back to Subic with her brother.
---Sorry, Ian, the contest in our last issue is only for members who can claim their prize in Metro Manila. But nobody followed the rule of responding via email and not in person, so it's still anybody's game.
